Prakaipet Indhusophon
Prakaipet Indhusophon (1929–1991) was a Thai philatelist who was added to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1989. Indhusophon was an expert in the philately of classic Siam, and has received Large Gold medals (and Special Prizes) at Ausipex 84, Philakorea 84, Israphil 85 and Italia 85. He competed at the FIP Championship Class at Stockholmia 86, Capcx 87, Finlandia 88 and Praga 88. He won the Grand Prix d'Honneur in an FIP Championship Class of 29 entries. He was married to Boonkrong Indhusophon, who continued his work after his death in April 1991. Philatelist
Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. Philately involves more than just stamp collecting or the study of postage; it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums. Etymology The word "philately" is the English transliteration of the French "", coined by Georges Herpin in 1864. Roll Of Distinguished Philatelists
The Roll of Distinguished Philatelists (RDP) is a Philately, philatelic award of international scale, created by the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain in 1921. The Roll consists of five pieces of parchment to which the signatories add their names. Selection of the signatories Those who have assisted the development of philately through their research, expertise or giving their time can be candidates to sign the Roll if they are sponsored by one of the existing signatories. This is a survey of the postal history and postage stamps of Thailand. Pre-postal era Before Siam issued its first stamp, there was a limited mail service, mainly for the royal family. Domestic mail travelled by messengers while international mail travelled by steamboat to post offices in nearby countries, such as the Straits Settlements. The earliest recorded mail from Bangkok dates back only to 1836 when American missionary Dan Beach Bradley sent a letter to his father in a stampless cover. The British Consular Post Office in Bangkok was established by Great Britain in 1858 as a consequence of a treaty signed between Great Britain and Siam (now known as Thailand) on 18 April 1855, and in response to a demand by expatriate merchants and missionaries.
