Praetorian DASS
The EuroDASS Praetorian DASS is an integral part of Eurofighter Typhoon defensive Aid Sub-System (DASS) providing threat assessment, aircraft protection and support measures in extremely hostile and severe environments. As the DASS is fully integrated, it does not require additional pods that take up weapon stations or would influence the aircraft's aerodynamic performance. In addition the modular nature of the DASS simplifies future upgrades and allows each partner nation or export customer the option to tailor the DASS to their individual needs. History The DASS for the Eurofighter Typhoon was intended to be a collaborative effort between the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. Eurofighter Typhoon
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a European multinational twin-engine, canard delta wing, multirole fighter. The Typhoon was designed originally as an air-superiority fighter and is manufactured by a consortium of Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo that conducts the majority of the project through a joint holding company, Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH. The NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency, representing the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain, manages the project and is the prime customer. The aircraft's development effectively began in 1983 with the Future European Fighter Aircraft programme, a multinational collaboration among the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Defensive Aids System
A defensive aide suite (DAS) is a military aircraft system which defends it from attack by surface-to-air missiles, air-to-air missiles and guided anti-aircraft artillery. A DAS typically comprises chaff, flares, and electronic countermeasures combined with radar warning receivers to detect threats. On some modern aircraft (Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II), the entire system is integrated and computer-controlled, allowing an aircraft to autonomously detect, classify and act in an optimal manner against a potential threat to its safety. Teldix
Teldix GmbH was a significant German aircraft electronics (military avionics) company, in the field of aircraft navigation. History It was established in 1960 by Telefunken and Bendix Corporation (USA). Another company similar at the time was Ottico Meccanica Italiana (OMI), of Italy. In 1973 Teldix was acquired by Robert Bosch GmbH and became part of their division "Kommunikationstechnik - Bosch Telecom" on july 1989. In 2005, the company was acquired by Rockwell Collins. Aviation In the late 1960s it made Head-Up Displays for fighter aircraft. It was partly responsible for the head-up display of the Panavia Tornado. Among other things, Teldix supplied gyroscopes and accelerometers for the HAWK anti-aircraft missile of the German Federal Armed Forces.
