Prades Tavernier
Prades Tavernier was a weaver and then Cathar parfait in the Comté de Foix in the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century. Tavernier was originally from Prades d'Aillon, and he was named after the town. There he became a successful and prosperous weaver. Though unmarried, he had a bastard daughter named Brune Pourcel. Tired of weaving Tavernier decided to become a Cathar Perfect and traveled the region preaching and performing Cathar rites. In his travels he spent much of his time in the town of Montaillou, which was a centre of Catharism. Unlike most parfait Tavernier did not come from the bourgeoisie and he was not well grounded in Cathar theology. He thus broke a number of rules, such as performing the consolamentum on an infant. Margaret of Prades (1388/95 – 23 July 1429) was Queen of Aragon by marriage to King Martin of Aragon. Life She was the daughter of Peter of Aragon, Baron of Entenza (1352–1395), and his wife, Joana of Cabrera. On 17 September 1409, Margaret married Martin of Catalonia-Aragon, a second cousin of her father. The bride was about fourteen years old and the groom fifty-three. Martin had survived all his legitimate children from his first marriage with Maria de Luna and was in need of a legitimate heir of his own. On 31 March 1410, Martin I died after six months of marriage. They had no children. Josep Prades I Gallent
Josep Prades i Gallent ( es, José Pradas Gallén) (1689–1757; born and died in Villahermosa del Río, Castelló) was a Spanish organist and composer at Valencia Cathedral during the Baroque period. Life By 1700 Prades was singing in the choir of Valencia Cathedral, where he probably learned from Joan Baptista Cabanilles. In 1712 he was appointed organist and chapel master in the church of Algemesi, and in 1717 he was appointed to the same duties in the church of Santa Maria in Castelló de la Plana. Finally, in 1728, he was appointed chapel master in Valencia Cathedral, where he strengthened the musical chapel by contracting new musicians and increasing the importance of the instrumental parts. After twenty nine years of dedicated labour he asked to be allowed to retire for reasons of health, and died, probably from an attack of apoplexy, in his native village, Vilafermosa (Villahermosa). Jean-Martin De Prades
Jean-Martin de Prades (c.1720–1782) was a French Catholic theologian. He became famous through a thesis he presented that was considered irreligious. Life Prades was born at Castelsarrasin, Tarn-et-Garonne. Having finished his preliminary studies, he went to Paris, where he lived in many seminaries, especially in that of St-Sulpice. He very soon became acquainted with the principal publishers of the ''Encyclopédie'', and supplied them with the article on "Certitude". About the end of 1751, he presented himself for the doctorate, driven, as a mémoire of that time says, "by the incredulous, who, in order to justify his blasphemies, wanted to have his doctrine approved by the Faculty". Prades wrote a very long thesis, which the examiners accepted without reading. The defence, which took place on 18 November, was very sharp, and scandal broke out. Eduard Pons Prades (1920–2007) was a Catalan historian and anarchist. Prades Mountains
Prades Mountains, also known as Muntanyes de Prades, is a large calcareous mountain massif straddling the comarcas of Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Conca de Barberà, Garrigues and Priorat, in Catalonia, Spain. They are a Site of Community Importance. These mountains have characteristic large and rounded rocky outcrops. They are mostly heavily forested with oak and pine trees, and the non-native chestnut tree has adapted to the local forests. Geography The range runs in an east to west direction and is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range. The main peak is Tossal de la Baltasana (1203 m), other summits are Mola d'Estat (1127 m), Mola dels Quatre Termes (1117 m), La Mussara (1055 m), and Punta de la Barrina (1013 m). The 731 m high Tossal de la Creu is a visible landmark from the Poblet Monastery, located at the foot of the range. Prades, Baix Camp
Prades is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Baix Camp, in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. The main monuments are Santa Maria church in the town, as well as the Ermita de l'Abellera shrine located in an escarpment, outside the town's perimeter. This town gives its name to the Prades Mountains, located in the vicinity of the municipality. It is a high altitude town, very cold in the winter, but popular as a tourist spot in the summer. History Count Ramon Berenguer IV made the concession of a municipal charter to the place in 1159. The last saracens were expelled from the area. By 1200 Prades had already its own market and the town grew in importance and power. The County of Prades included the Barony of Entença, as well as other towns in the area.
