Pradeep Kumar Chatterjee
Vice Admiral Pradeep Chatterjee, PVSM, AVSM, NM, ADC is a former Flag Officer in the Indian Navy officer. He served as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy from 29 May 2012 to 31 May 2014 before serving as Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command. Military career He joined the Indian Navy in July 1977, qualifying as a submariner. He commanded the submarines INS Shankush and INS Shankul. He later served as Commodore Commanding Submarines (West) in Mumbai, and Principal Director Submarine Operations at Naval Headquarters. On reaching flag rank he served as Flag Officer Submarines, Flag Officer Maharashtra and Gujarat Naval Area and Inspector General Nuclear Safety before his assignment as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff. He retired in 2016. Vice admiral is a three-star flag officer rank in the Indian Navy. It is the second-highest active rank in the Indian Navy. Vice admiral ranks above the two-star rank of rear admiral and below the four-star rank of admiral, which is held by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS). The equivalent rank in the Indian Army is lieutenant general and in the Indian Air Force is air marshal. Vice Admiral Satish Soni is a retired Indian Navy officer. He is a former Commandant of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Commander-in-Chief of Southern Command and Eastern Command. Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) is a military award of India given to recognize "distinguished service of an exceptional order" to all ranks of the armed forces. The award is a peacetime equivalent of Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal, which is a Wartime Distinguished Service decoration. The award can also be granted posthumously. Subsequent awards are represented by a bar worn on the ribbon. The awardee can use "AVSM" as post-nominal letters. Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, ADC is a retired Flag Officer in the Indian Navy. He served as the 13th Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command from 29 February 2016 to 1 December 2019. Early life and education Verma attended the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun. He later attended the National Defence Academy where he was adjudged the Best Naval Cadet. His elder brother, Nirmal Kumar Verma also joined the Navy and rose to become the 20th Chief of the Naval Staff. Career Verma was commissioned into the Navy on 1 January 1980. He has done his specialisation in Communication and Electronic Warfare.
