Prabha Ranatunge
Prabha Ranatunge (1926-2017), also known as Prabha Perera, was a Sri Lankan radio personality who was the first Sinhala female announcer in Sri Lanka. She joined Radio Ceylon in the 1950s as the first ever woman announcer for the station. After her marriage, she worked as a radio announcer with the name Prabha Ranatunge. Death Ranatunge died on 5 May 2017. Her remains are lying at the Jayaratne funeral parlour in Borella. Borella
Borella is the largest suburb in Colombo, Sri Lanka represented by divisional code 8. Demographic Borella is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic area. The major ethnic communities in Borella are Sinhalese and Tamils. There are also various other minorities, such as Burghers, Sri Lankan Moors and others. Religions include Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and various other religions and beliefs to a lesser extent. History The history of the settlement of Borella is dated from the 15th century as a village situated along a cart-track from the port of Colombo to Kotte. A Borella municipal market was built in 1910. Borella was also a terminus of the historical defunct Colombo tramway system. Radio Ceylon ( si, ලංකා ගුවන් විදුලි සේවය ''Lanka Guwan Viduli Sevaya'', ta, இலங்கை வானொலி, ''ilankai vanoli'') is a radio station based in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) and the first radio station in Asia. Broadcasting was started on an experimental basis by the colonial Telegraph Department in 1923, just three years after the inauguration of broadcasting in Europe. History The history of Radio Ceylon dates back to 1925, when its first precursor, ''Colombo Radio'', was launched on 16 December 1925 using a mediumwave radio transmitter of one kilowatt of output power from Welikada, Colombo.
