Pottstown Firebirds
The Pottstown Firebirds were a professional American football minor league team and member of the Atlantic Coast Football League from 1968 to 1970. The Pottstown Firebirds were former NFL football players, former college football players, and former high school football players who loved to play the game of football. The Firebirds were originally a "farm club" of the Philadelphia Eagles and were provided with equipment/helmets already emblazoned with Eagle wings. Only a few Firebirds ever moved up to NFL teams. The Firebirds affiliation with the Philadelphia Eagles was short-lived and was withdrawn in 1970. The Pottstown Firebirds played their home games at Pottstown High School stadium. In their final two seasons of existence in Pottstown (1969 and 1970), the Firebirds won the league championship. In 1971, the Firebirds merged with the Norfolk Neptunes and left Pottstown. Mark Kosmos (October 28, 1945 – November 11, 2020) was an American football player in the ACFL, for the Pottstown Firebirds in 1968 and 1969 and in the CFL for eight years. Kosmos played linebacker for the Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Ottawa Rough Riders from 1970-1977. William Alan Stetz (born September 28, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a former American football guard in the National Football League. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1967. Joseph Patrick Rogers Sr. (September 30, 1924 – April 1, 2011) was an American football player and coach. He served as the interim head football coach at Villanova University for the final six games of the 1959 season, compiling a record of 1–5, including the team's only win of the season. High School Career Joe Rogers was named all-scholastic athlete for both football and basketball at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. Robert Louis Tucker (born June 8, 1945) is an American former professional football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). A 6'3", 230 lbs. tight end from Bloomsburg University, Tucker played for 11 seasons in the NFL, from 1970 to 1980, for the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings. Allan Wade Key (born October 14, 1946) is an American former professional football player who was a guard and offensive tackle for 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL) from 1970 to 1979. After playing college football for Southwest Texas State University, he was selected in the 13th round of the 1969 NFL Draft by the Eagles. He was named to the Eagles' 75th Anniversary Team in 2007.
