Potez X
The Potez X was a French 1920s general-purpose colonial transport aircraft designed and built by Potez. Development The Potez X was a three-engined biplane with a fixed nosewheel landing gear supplemented with a tailskid. The first variant was the Potez X A which was powered by three 140 hp (104 kW) Hispano-Suiza 8Aa piston engines, two strut-mounted between the upper and lower wings and one nose-mounted. It had an enclosed cabin for 10 passengers with the pilot in an open cockpit behind the cabin. Later the engines were changed to more powerful Hispano-Suiza 8Ab versions. Two other variants were built with 280 hp (209 kW) Hispano-Suiza 8Bec engines, the X B was a military variant and the X C a commercial variant. The Potez XVIII was a French airliner from the early 1920s, a three-engine biplane carrying up to twelve passengers. Design and development The Potez XVIII airliner, displayed at the 1922 Paris Salon, was a development of the Potez X colonial transport. It was an unequal span biplane largely built of wood, though with metal engines mountings and other fittings, engine nacelles and tail surfaces. The rectangular plan wings were aircraft fabric covering, fabric covered. On each side, towards the wing tips a parallel pair of interplane struts leaned outwards. Closer to the fuselage a parallel pair of V-form interplane struts formed a cradle for the outboard engines, mounted between the wings. Potez (pronounced ) was a French aircraft manufacturer founded as Aéroplanes Henry Potez by Henry Potez at Aubervilliers in 1919 in aviation, 1919. The firm began by refurbishing war-surplus SEA IV aircraft, but was soon building new examples of an improved version, the Potez SEA VII. History During the inter-war years, Potez built a range of small passenger aircraft and a series of military reconnaissance biplanes that were also licence-built in Poland. In 1933 in aviation, 1933, the firm bought flying boat manufacturer Chantiers Aéro-Maritimes de la Seine, CAMS. Illustrated Encyclopedia Of Aircraft
The ''Illustrated Encyclopedia of Aircraft'' was a weekly partwork magazine by Aerospace Publishing (an imprint of Orbis Publishing) which was published in the United Kingdom (and sold in other countries too) during the early 1980s. The magazine was intended to eventually make up a multi-volume encyclopedia dedicated to aviation. First issued in 1981, the partwork comprised 216 issues, each of twenty pages (plus the covers), making up eighteen volumes (4280 pages). The first two issues were sold together for the price of one, subsequent issues were sold on their own. Empty binders for each volume (of twelve issues) were also sold. These binders were dark blue in colour and contained the imprint of a Panavia Tornado on the front. They held the issues using a metal strip that was threaded through the staples of each issue to hold them in place. Each issue consisted of four separate sections.
