Potez 33
The Potez 32 and its military version the Potez 33 was a single-engine French monoplane transport built by Potez and based on the Potez 29 biplane. Development The Potez 32 used the same fuselage, tail unit and landing gear of the Potez 29, but was a high-wing strut-braced monoplane configured as either a five-passenger transport or mail plane. The first aircraft was flown in 1928 and was followed by 54 production aircraft. The Potez 33 militarized version was first flown in 1928 and designed as a liaison / observation aircraft or could be used as a pilot or observer trainer. The Potez 33 was fitted with dual controls and had large observation windows, it also had a dorsal machine gun position and could carry light bombs on under-fuselage racks. Potez (pronounced ) was a French aircraft manufacturer founded as Aéroplanes Henry Potez by Henry Potez at Aubervilliers in 1919. The firm began by refurbishing war-surplus SEA IV aircraft, but was soon building new examples of an improved version, the Potez SEA VII. History During the inter-war years, Potez built a range of small passenger aircraft and a series of military reconnaissance biplanes that were also licence-built in Poland. In 1933, the firm bought flying boat manufacturer CAMS. The company was nationalized in 1936, following which it was merged with Chantiers aéronavals Étienne Romano, Lioré et Olivier, CAMS and SPCA in order to form the Société nationale des constructions aéronautiques du Sud-Est (SNCASE) on 1 February 1937. Aéropostale (formally, ''Compagnie générale aéropostale'') was a pioneering aviation company which operated from 1918 to 1933. It was founded in 1918 in Toulouse, France, as ''Société des lignes Latécoère'', also known as ''Lignes aeriennes Latécoère'' or simply "The Line" (''La ligne''). The Lorraine 9N Algol was a French 9-cylinder radial aeroengine built and used in the 1930s. It was rated at up to , but more usually in the range. Design and development The Algol was a conventionally laid out radial engine, with nine cylinders in a single row. The crankcase was a barrel-shaped aluminium alloy casting, with an internal integral diaphragm which held the front crankshaft bearing. Forward of the diaphragm there was an integrally cast cam-gear case for the double track cam-ring. The reduction gear was housed under a domed casing attached to the front of the crankcase. Flange-mounted steel barrels were bolted to the crankcase and enclosed with cast aluminium alloy, screwed-on, cylinder head with integral cooling fins.
