Potato (film)
''Potato'' () is a 1987 South Korean remake of a 1967 film with the same name, and the second adaptation of Kim Dong-in's short novel. Plot Bok-nyeo is forced to marry a widower who is older than she is. After the marriage, she goes to work at a salt farm, where she is raped by her boss. Bok-nyeo decides to make money by changing her lifestyle. Later, she falls in love with a Chinese herbalist in Korea, Mr. Wang. Bok-nyeo becomes jealous when Mr. Wang gets married. She tries to kill Wang, but Mr. Wang kills Bok-nyeo and hides her body. Byun Jang-ho (27 April 1940 – 25 February 2022) was a South Korean film director. Biography Byun made about 90 films in a career that spans more than 30 years. His film ''Love Me Once Again Despite Hatred '80'' (1980) is one of the greatest box office hits in 1980. Jang-ho was born on 27 April 1940. His film ''Potato'' (1988) is a remake of a 1967 film and the second adaptation of Kim Dong-in's short novel of the same name. It won Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Music at the 26th Grand Bell Awards in 1987. Jang-ho died on 25 February 2022, at the age of 81. Kang Soo-yeon
Kang Soo-yeon (; August 18, 1966 – May 7, 2022) was a South Korean actress. An internationally acclaimed star from the mid-1980s to the end of the 1990s, she is often honorifically nicknamed as Korea's "first world star". Kang began her acting career as a child actor and gained national recognition with ''A High School Student's Diary'' on KBS 1TV (1983–1984), and the comedy films ''Whale Hunting 2'' (1985) and ''Mimi and Cheolsu's Youth Sketch'' (1987). However, she would remain unknown outside her own country until her breakout role in Im Kwon-taek's '' The Surrogate Woman'' (1987). She won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 44th Venice International Film Festival for her role, making her the first Korean actor to receive an award at a major international film festival. Kim Dong-in () (1900–1951) was a Korean writer. Life Kim Dong-in, born on October 2, 1900 in Pyeongyang, Pyeongannam-do was a pioneer of realism and naturalism in Modern Korean literature. A son of a wealthy landowner, like many other young Korean intellectuals Kim took his higher education in Japan, attending the Meiji Academy in Tokyo and entering the Kawabata School of Fine Arts. Kim dropped out when he decided to pursue writing as a career. In 1919, Kim and other advocates for "art-for-art's-sake-literature," launched the influential but transitory journal ''Creation'' (Changjo) in Japan along with Joo Yohan, Jeon Yeongtaek, Choi Seungman, and Kim Hwan.
