Postumia (vestal)
Postumia was a vestal virgin (Latin: sacerdos vestalis) of Rome accused of the crime of incestum in 420 BC and acquitted of the crime. The Women of Pliny's Letters Other than Postumia's trial, little is known about her life. III, p. 510 ("Postumia Gens"). Origin The nomen ''Postumius'' is a patronymic surname, derived from the praenomen ''Postumus'', which presumably belonged to the ancestor of the gens. That name is derived from the Latin adjective, ''postremus'', meaning "last" or "hindmost," originally indicating a last-born or youngest child. However, its meaning has long been confounded with that of ''posthum ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
