Portuguese Uruguayan
Portuguese Uruguayans are Uruguayans of full or partial Portuguese ancestry. The Portuguese arrived in Uruguay around the time of the Spanish colonial period. Many of them were sailors, conquistadors, clergy, and members of the military. Later Portuguese arrivals included pirates in conflict with Spanish leadership; Colonia del Sacramento, which eventually turned into a regional center of smuggling, is a notable example of those ages Another source of Portuguese immigration into Uruguay were Brazilians of Portuguese descent, who crossed the border into the country ever since it became independent. During the second half of the 19th century and part of the 20th, several additional Portuguese immigrants arrived; the last wave was during 1930–1965. Colonia De Sacramento
Colonia del Sacramento (; pt, Colónia do Sacramento) is a city in southwestern Uruguay, by the Río de la Plata, facing Buenos Aires, Argentina. Enrique Amorim
Enrique Amorim (July 25, 1900 – July 28, 1960) was an Uruguayan novelist and writer, best known for his story ''Las quitanderas'' whose plot centers on rural prostitution; also known for his left-wing politics. Biography Enrique Amorim was born in Salto, Uruguay to parents who were wealthy cattle ranchers. His father was from a Portuguese background, his mother Basque. Amorim travelled extensively in Europe and Latin America, developing acquaintanceships and friendships with many of the leading literary figures of his time. He eventually had a house built in Salto, designed by Le Corbusier. In the 1920s Amorim wrote for the Argentine leftist magazine ''Los Pensadores'' and published with the press Claridad, both associated with the left-leaning Buenos Aires-based Boedo group. Adrián Caetano
Israel Adrián Caetano (born 1969 in Montevideo, Uruguay), known as Adrián Caetano, is an Uruguayan film director, producer and screenwriter. Biography He's often credited as Adrián Caetano. He works mainly in the cinema of Argentina and at times, he obtains funding for his films in Europe. He lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At age of sixteen, his family moved to Córdoba, Argentina. When he was older, he shot several short videos including ''Visite Carlos Paz,'' and ''Calafate''. In 1995, Caetano won a prize in a script contest he entered. María Eugenia Vaz Ferreira
Maria Eugenia Vaz Ferreira (1875–1924) was an Uruguayan teacher and poet. She was the younger sister of philosopher Carlos Vaz Ferreira and a contemporary of Delmira Agustini and Julio Herrera y Reissig. She was born and lived in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. She held a Chair in Literature at the Women's University. She suffered from mental illness and lost her reason some years before her death in 1924. Her first volume of is entitled ''La isla de los canticos'' and consists of forty selected poems (and a single poem ''Unico poema'' added at her brother's insistence) which he published shortly after her death. Carlos Vaz Ferreira
Carlos Vaz Ferreira (October 15, 1872 – January 3, 1958) was a Uruguayan philosopher, lawyer, writer, and academic. Influenced by John Stuart Mill and Herbert Spencer, he is notable for introducing liberal, pluralistic political values and pragmatic philosophical concepts to South American society. Aparicio Saravia da Rosa (August 16, 1856 – September 10, 1904) was a Uruguayan politician and military leader.
