Ports in West Bengal support international trade. Since ancient times, trade in West Bengal has been closely related to the river and seaports. The waterways have still not lost their importance. Tajpur Port
Tajpur Port is a proposed greenfield deep-sea port in Tajpur, East Midnapore district, West Bengal. The port will be built on the coast of Bay of Bengal near Tajpur. The construction of the port was awarded to the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited in September, 2022. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee handed over Letter of Intent (LoI) to build the port to Karan Adani, son of Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, at the "Bijaya Sammelani" organized on October 12, 2022 at Eco Park, New Town, Kolkata. After the construction of the port, it will be the first deep-sea port in West Bengal. It is estimated that the port will be constructed at a cost of ₹25,000 crores ($3.1 billion) . Sagar Island
Sagar Island is an island in the Ganges delta, lying on the Continental Shelf of Bay of Bengal about 100 km (54 nautical miles) south of Kolkata. This island forms the Sagar CD Block in Kakdwip subdivision of South 24 Parganas district in the Indian State of West Bengal. Although Sagar Island is a part of Sundarbans, it does not have any tiger habitation or mangrove forests or small river tributaries as is characteristic of the overall Sundarban delta. Sagar Port is a proposed seaport in Sagar Island, West Bengal, India by Government of India and Government of West Bengal.IIT Madras has been engaged to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the port, involving studies for shore-protection, land reclamation and physical modeling for use of dredge material. Farrakka Barrage Township
Farrakka Barrage Township is a census town in the Farakka CD block in the Jangipur subdivision of the Murshidabad district in the state of West Bengal, India. Geography Location Farakka Barrage Township is located at . It has an average elevation of 12 metres (39 feet). Farakka Port or Farakka Floating Terminal is one of the minor river ports in West Bengal. This river port is a small river port. It is located near Farakka town of Murshidabad district. Mainly coal is brought from Indonesia by this port. First coal was brought to Haldia Port by big ships. After that, the coal was transported to Farakka port by the barge. Kulpi is a village and a gram panchayat within the jurisdiction of the Kulpi police station in the Kulpi CD block in the Diamond Harbour subdivision of the South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History In the 18th century this area was occupied by Portuguese pirates. So, the Nawab of Bengal stationed about 150 soldiers to make this area free. Haldia Port
Haldia port or Haldia Dock Complex has been built at the meeting place of the Haldi River and Hooghly river. Kolkata Port Trust has been created in this port as the port's partner. So it is not a port. It is an official dock complex.
