Portland Football Netball Cricket Club
The Portland Football Netball Cricket Club, nicknamed the ''Tigers'', is an Australian sports club based in the city of Portland, Victoria. The club's football and netball teams currently compete in the Hampden Football Netball League, with the football squad having joined it in 2013 along with the Hamilton Kangaroos. Apart from football and netball, the club has a cricket section which up until 2023 played in the Portland and District Cricket Association. That association amalgamated with the Hamilton and District Cricket Association ahead of the 2023-24 season. History The club was established as "Portland Football Club" on June 6, 1876 at a meeting held at Mac's Hotel. Portland's current colours (black and gold) were first used in 1902 and again in 1909, but changed in 1919. The distinctive black with gold sash came into being in 1930. Hampden Football Netball League
The Hampden Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league based in South-Western Victoria, with clubs located in towns along or near the Princes Highway from Camperdown to Portland. The league is a major country league. It comprises an amalgamation of the Hampden Football League with the women's netball league with the same teams and playing draw. History The ''Hampden Football League'' was formed in 1930, when the four founding clubs broke away from the Western District FL. Terang and Camperdown did not want to continue to travel to Hamilton because their players were farmers who could not spend all day away from the farm to play football, as they had cows to milk. Mortlake agreed with Camperdown and Terang and resigned from the WDFL. Cobden was left with a predicament, and requested admittance to the new league. Jamaine Jones
Jamaine Jones is a professional Australian rules footballer for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is a small forward. Jones debuted in round 10, 2018 against Carlton at Kardinia Park, and scored a goal with his first kick. Jones was born in Broken Hill and was raised in a group home in Mildura. He is indigenous and a Barkindji. Aged 10, he was adopted by Sue Lovett and moved to Geelong where he played football for Belmont. Stuart Spencer (3 February 1932 – 27 September 2011) was an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL) and Tasmanian Football League (TFL) in the 1950s and 1960s. Ian Hampshire
Ian James "Bluey" Hampshire (9 May 1948 – 2 September 2018) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong and Footscray. He played as a ruckman. Recruited from Portland to Geelong, Hampshire made his VFL debut in 1968 and played with the club for eight seasons. He moved to Footscray in 1976 where he acted as a secondary ruckman to Gary Dempsey. Dempsey left the club three seasons later and Hampshire became Footscray's first choice in the ruck, finishing second in the club's best and fairest. In 1981 he was selected to represent Victoria. In round 20, 1981, against Fitzroy (Hampshire's 100th game for Footscray and 13 weeks after his 200th career game) he became the first VFL/AFL player to play 100 games at two clubs.
