Portals Athletic F.C.
Portals Athletic were a works football team based between the north Hampshire towns of Overton and Whitchurch. The club ran for 60 years until the loss of the sudden loss of their financial backing in 1987. History Portals Athletic FC were founded in 1927 as the works side of the Laverstoke Paper Mill, taking their name from the owners Portals Limited, and initially played in the local Basingstoke League where they enjoyed plenty of success - most notably in 1936–37 when they won the Hampshire Junior 'A' Cup. In 1967 Portals were elected to Hampshire League Division 3 where they finished in a respectable mid-table final position. A year later the league was expanded and they were consequently placed in Division 3 West, where they finished 3rd before clinching promotion as runners-up in 1969–70. Portals quickly adapted well to life in what was then a highly competitive Division 2 and clinched a final position of 3rd which was enough to secure a second successive promoti ...

The participating clubs are mainly based in Hampshire and Dorset but the league also encompasses clubs from adjoining counties such as Wiltshire, Berkshire, and the Isle of Wight. North Hants League
The North Hants Senior League was a football competition based in Hampshire, England and was administered by the North Hants FA. History The League was founded in 1968, by the North Hants FA, to bridge the gap between the Hampshire League and its three local Junior leagues; the Basingstoke & District League and the now defunct Andover & District League and the Winchester & District League. During its heyday, the competition was much respected and for a spell (1973-81) ran with two 14 team divisions. The league consisted mainly of village sides and of the reserve teams of many Hampshire League clubs. Like many other leagues at this level, it lost many teams during the late Nineties/early millennium, when leagues higher up expanded - mainly by introducing Combination Divisions for their reserve sides. After a further decline in numbers, the competition folded in 2004 following the expansion of the Wessex League and the consequent formation of the Hampshire League 2004 The Ham ...
