The Port Vila Shield is an association football competition held for football clubs in the country of Vanuatu. It was founded in 2013 and is run by the Port Vila Football Association. The shield acts as a pre-season competition, where TVL Premier League clubs play against each other in a cup format. Vanuatu
Vanuatu ( or ; ), officially the Republic of Vanuatu (french: link=no, République de Vanuatu; bi, Ripablik blong Vanuatu), is an island country located in the South Pacific Ocean. Port Vila Football League, also known as the Digicel League or more simply, the Digicel Premier League is the main football competition in Port Vila, Vanuatu. It consists of 3 competitions: Port Vila Premier League, Port Vila First Division and the Port Vila Second Division. The league's domestic cup is the Port Vila FA Cup, in which all 3 divisions compete in. The Port Vila Premier League is considered to be the best football league in Vanuatu while the Port Vila Football Association is considered to be the main football association in Vanuatu. Tafea is the southernmost of the six provinces of Vanuatu. The name is an acronym for the five main islands that make up the province: Tanna, Aneityum, Futuna, Erromango and Aniwa. VFF National Super League
The VFF Champions League, formerly known as the VFF National Super League and the VFF Bred Cup, is the national league of Vanuatu. The league is not fully professional. Format Since 2016, the PVFA, Port Vila Football Association does not take part in this competition anymore. Which means that the top teams from seven Vanuatu football associations compete in 3 groups and the top two from each advance to the final round. The winner of the final round qualifies for the OFC Champions League. Sport In Vanuatu
Sports in Vanuatu are played throughout the country. Football (Soccer) Association football is the most popular sport in the country. In 1988, Vanuatu became a member of FIFA and the OFC. Vanuatu has one of the most advanced technical programs in Oceania, particularly at youth level. The Melanesian nation was chosen as one of six countries globally for a FIFA pilot project whereby players are identified at a young age and selected to train and stay full-time at the national academy. As part of that two-year program for players aged 15–17, consideration is given to continuing school or vocational education. The men's national football team has never qualified for the World Cup. They finished fourth in the OFC Nations Cup four times and finished runner up in the South Pacific Games. Basketball Vanuatu's basketball federation has the country's longest international sports federation membership as it joined the International Federation of Basketball (FIBA) in 1966.
