Port Richmond, Staten Island
Port Richmond is a neighborhood situated on the North Shore of Staten Island, a borough of New York City. Port Richmond is bounded by Kill van Kull on the north, Jewett Avenue on the east, Forest Avenue on the south, and the Bayonne Bridge on the west. It is adjacent to West New Brighton to the east, Westerleigh to the south, and Elm Park and Mariners Harbor to the west. Formerly an independent village, it is one of the oldest neighborhoods on the island. In the 19th century it was an important transportation and industrial center of the island, but this role has vanished nearly completely, leaving a largely blue collar residential area bypassed by the shift of development of the island to its interior after the 1960s. The formerly bustling commercial center along Richmond Avenue (now Port Richmond Avenue) had been largely abandoned at the time, but many small businesses have opened in the area since the late 20th century. Forest Avenue (Staten Island)
New York State Route 439 (NY 439) was an east–west state highway on Staten Island in New York in the United States. The western terminus of the route was at the Goethals Bridge, where it continued into New Jersey as its Route 439. Its eastern terminus was at the Staten Island Ferry terminal in the St. George neighborhood. In between, NY 439 followed the Staten Island Expressway, Forest Avenue, Victory Boulevard, and Bay Street. When NY 439 was assigned in 1949, it extended eastward into Brooklyn by way of the Bay Ridge Ferry. In Brooklyn, the NY 439 designation continued along Bay Ridge Avenue (69th Street), 4th Avenue and Shore Road Drive to exit 1 of the Belt Parkway, where it ended. In 1964, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge between Brooklyn and Staten Island was completed, resulting in the deactivation of the Bay Ridge Ferry and the truncation of NY 439 to the St. George ferry terminal. Reformed Church On Staten Island
The Reformed Church on Staten Island is a historic Dutch Reformed Church and Cemetery at 54 Port Richmond Avenue in Port Richmond, Staten Island, New York. The Reformed Church was founded in 1660 and has been at the same site since 1680. The first church was built shortly thereafter. The second church, built in 1717, was destroyed by the British during the American Revolutionary War. The third church was built in 1787. The current church was built in 1844 in the Greek Revival style. It is a brick building set on a fieldstone foundation. New Dorp is a neighborhood on the East Shore of Staten Island, New York City, United States. New Dorp is bounded by Mill Road on the southeast, Tysens Lane on the southwest, Amboy and Richmond Roads on the northwest, and Bancroft Avenue on the northeast. It is adjacent to Oakwood to the southwest, Todt Hill to the northwest, Dongan Hills and Grant City, and Midland Beach and Miller Field to the southeast. Richmond Avenue is a major north-south thoroughfare on Staten Island, New York. Measuring approximately , the road runs from the South Shore community of Eltingville to the North Shore community of Graniteville. Street description Richmond Avenue begins at Tennyson Drive and Crescent Beach Park bordering Raritan Bay. Hylan Boulevard is the first major intersection, to the north. Mariners Harbor, Staten Island
Mariners Harbor is a neighborhood located in the northwestern part of New York City's borough of Staten Island. It is bordered by Lake Avenue to the east, Forest Avenue to the south, Richmond Terrace to the north, and Holland Avenue to the west. The northwestern section of Mariners Harbor is often known as Arlington. Elm Park, Staten Island
Elm Park is the name of a small park in the Port Richmond, Staten Island, Port Richmond section of Staten Island, one of the five boroughs of New York City, United States. The park is located across Innis Street from Port Richmond High School. The name "Elm Park" is sometimes used to denote the area from its namesake westward for several blocks, lending its name to the former Elm Park (Staten Island Railway station), Elm Park Station on the North Shore Branch of the Staten Island Railway. The station was situated directly beneath Morningstar Road. Passenger service on this branch of the railway was halted in 1953; a dilapidated remnant of the station's platform still exists, but the stairways leading to the street have been removed. At various times, the neighborhood was known as Jacksonville (c. 1830) and Lowville (c. 1850). Its present name was given to it by a local physician, Dr. John T.
