Port Reading Junction is a major rail junction (MANS) in Manville, New Jersey serving rail freight travelling between the Port of New York and New Jersey in northeastern New Jersey and points to the south and west. It is the site of Manville Yard. Conrail , formally the Consolidated Rail Corporation, was the primary Class I railroad in the Northeastern United States between 1976 and 1999. The trade name Conrail is a portmanteau based on the company's legal name. It continues to do business as an asset management and network services provider in three Shared Assets Areas that were excluded from the division of its operations during its acquisition by CSX Corporation and the Norfolk Southern Railway. Port Reading Refinery
Port Reading Refinery, also known as Hess Refinery''(photo) was an oil refinery located in Perth Amboy and Port Reading, New Jersey. It was constructed by Hess Oil under Leon Hess in 1958. It is a simple refinery which further processes other refinery's product which begins with heavy sour crude. It is owned by the Hess Corporation, refiners of Hess brand gasoline. The refinery itself has outlets that connect with Arthur Kill, enabling oil barges to make passage into the refinery's commons. The refinery had a neon red "HESS" sign on its cracking unit which was removed in December, 2013 after the property was sold. The refinery was closed in 2013. The Raritan Valley Line is a commuter rail service operated by New Jersey Transit (NJT) which serves passengers in municipalities in Union, Somerset, and Hunterdon counties in the Raritan Valley region in central New Jersey, United States. The line's most frequent western terminus is Raritan station in Raritan. Some weekday trains continue farther west and terminate at the High Bridge station, located in High Bridge. Most eastbound trains terminate in Newark; passengers bound for New York make a cross-platform transfer. A limited number of weekday trains continue directly to New York. It stretches from the Harrisburg Line at Wyomissing Junction in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania to a junction with the Lehigh Line in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Trenton Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The line runs from CP PARK in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, northeast to Port Reading Junction in Manville, New Jersey, along a former Reading Company line. At its south end, CP Park (Park Junction), in Brewerytown, Philadelphia, the Trenton Subdivision becomes the Philadelphia Subdivision, Norfolk Southern has trackage rights to go through CP Park to access the Delair Branch. The north end of the Trenton Subdivision at Port Reading Junction is where the Conrail Lehigh Line (in the North Jersey Shared Assets Area) heads northeast and the Norfolk Southern Railway Lehigh Line heads west.
