Port Moresby United is a semi-professional association football club based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The club was founded in 2018. The club took part in the 2019 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, 2019 edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, and finished third in the Southern Conference. History The side was founded in late 2018 to act as a flagship team for the National Capital District (Papua New Guinea), National Capital District of Port Moresby, and is backed by NCD governor Powes Parkop. Under coach Francis Moyap, the side entered the 2019 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League as one of eight teams in the Southern Conference. The side won their opening fixture against NSL veterans Eastern Stars, securing a 2–1 victory thanks to goals from Iamo Maneke and Chris David (Papua New Guinean footballer), Chris David. Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The KPHL National Soccer League, also known as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of professional soccer in Papua New Guinea. It is a nationwide league formed in 2006 by Papua New Guinea Football Association. It replaced the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship as the country's major soccer competition. In its 13 seasons, the competition has been won by only two clubs: Hekari United won the first eight editions, while Lae City have won the last six. The two clubs have met in two Grand Finals, in 2015–16 and 2019, with Lae City winning both.
