Port Glasgow FC
Port Glasgow Junior Football Club is a Scottish football club, based in the town of Port Glasgow, Inverclyde. History Nicknamed ''the Undertakers'', they were formed as Port Glasgow Athletic Juveniles F.C. in 1948 as an offshoot of Clune Rock Juveniles. They stepped up to the Junior ranks a year later and obtained a place in the Central Junior Football League. They are not related to the pre-War Port Glasgow Athletic Juniors who disbanded in July 1939 after losing their ground. Their first ground was Woodhall Park, Port Glasgow where they played until being evicted by the local council in 2000 to make way for an industrial development, which was not built until 2014. They then groundshared with local rivals Greenock Juniors at both Ravenscraig Stadium and Battery Park, while Ravenscraig was redeveloped for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Port Glasgow
Port Glasgow ( gd, Port Ghlaschu, ) is the second-largest town in the Inverclyde council area of Scotland. The population according to the 1991 census for Port Glasgow was 19,426 persons and in the 2001 census was 16,617 persons. The most recent census in 2011 states that the population has declined to 15,414. It is located immediately to the east of Greenock and was previously a burgh in the county of Renfrewshire. Originally a fishing hamlet named Newark, Port Glasgow came about as a result of large ships being unable to navigate the shallow and meandering River Clyde to the centre of the city of Glasgow. As a result, it was formed as a remote port for Glasgow in 1668, and became known as 'New Port Glasgow', which was shortened to 'Port Glasgow' in 1775. Inverclyde ( sco, Inerclyde, gd, Inbhir Chluaidh, , "mouth of the Clyde") is one of 32 council areas used for local government in Scotland. Ravenscraig Stadium
Ravenscraig Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium, in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The stadium is primarily set up for athletics, with a running track, but it is also the traditional home of Greenock Juniors Football Club. The stadium underwent a £1.7 million refurbishment in preparation for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The stadium was built in 1958 with a cinder track, upgraded to synthetic in 1992.
