Port District Football Club
Port District Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in Largs Bay, South Australia. The club is successor of Semaphore Central F.C., which merged with Exeter F.C. to form Port District in 1979. The team played in different leagues of South Australia until they joined "South Australian Amateur Football League" (current Adelaide Footy League) when it was established in 1911. History The club was originally established as "LeFevre Peninsula Football Club" and after several name changes, in 1898 it was renamed "Semaphore Central Football Club". During their first years of existence, LeFevre shared grounds with Port Adelaide. In 1876, the club had to look for a new ground after several members of the team suffered bruises and sprains when an accident occurred with the coach that carried them back to home. The Adelaide Footy League, formerly known as the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL), is a semi-professional Australian rules football competition based in Adelaide, South Australia. Comprising sixty-seven member clubs playing over one hundred and ten matches per week, the SAAFL is one of Australia's largest Australian rules football associations. The league currently provides competition across eight Senior divisions with Reserves grades, accompanied by a separate C grade competition, all from Divisions 1 to 7. Corporate Town Of Semaphore
The corporate town of Semaphore was a local government area in South Australia. It was created on 20 December 1883, and re-gazetted on 17 January 1884, from areas which had been part of the District Council of Lefevre's Peninsula and District Council of Glanville. The separation of Semaphore would make both its former municipalities unviable, with Lefevre's Peninsula subsequently merging into the District Council of Birkenhead and Glanville with the District Council of Woodville. In 1889, the municipality acquired the Semaphore Institute building for use as the Semaphore Town Hall; the building survives today as the heritage-listed Semaphore Library. Norwood Oval (currently known as Coopers Stadium due to sponsorship from the Adelaide-based Coopers Brewery) is a suburban oval in the western end of Norwood, an inner eastern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is owned by Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council but managed by the Norwood Football Club. Though mainly used for Australian rules football, the oval has been used for a variety of other sporting and community events including baseball, soccer, rugby league and American football. The District Council of Glanville was a local government area in South Australia from 1864 to 1888. History It was first proclaimed on 14 July 1864. A month later on 11 August, another proclamation rescinded the initial proclamation, due to an erroneous boundary definition, and provided a correct description of the district's boundaries. LeFevre Peninsula
The Lefevre Peninsula is a peninsula located in the Australian state of South Australia located about northwest of the Adelaide city centre. It is a narrow sand spit of about running north from its connection to the mainland. The name given to the peninsula by the traditional owners of the area, the Kaurna people, was Mudlangga, meaning "nose-place" in the Kaurna language. Location and extent Lefevre Peninsula, with a population of approximately 30,000 residents, is located on the east coast of Gulf St Vincent about north-west of the Adelaide city centre.
