Port-de-Paix (; ht, Pòdepè or ; meaning "Port of Peace") is a List of communes of Haiti, commune and the capital of the Nord-Ouest (department), Nord-Ouest Departments of Haiti, department of Haiti on the Atlantic coast. It has a population of 462,000 (2015 IHSI estimate). Port-de-Paix used to be a large exporter of bananas and coffee. The area around the town was given the name "Valparaíso" by Christopher Columbus after landing here in the late evening of December 6, 1492, and today still contains many attractive beaches and cave locations. Nord-Ouest (department)
Nord-Ouest ( French) or Nòdwès (Haitian Creole; both meaning "North West") is one of the ten departments of Haiti as well as the northernmost one. It has an area of and a population of 728,807 (2015 Census). Its capital is Port-de-Paix. Port-de-Paix Airport
Port-de-Paix Airport is in passenger numbers, the third airport in Haiti and is located in the city with the same name, Port-de-Paix, on the north coast of Haiti. The airport does not have radar, nor is it a radio controlled aerodrome. 2018 Haiti Earthquake
On October 6, 2018, at approximately 8:11 p.m, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck 19 kilometers northwest of Port-de-Paix, Haiti. The earthquake damaged structures and killed 18 people. The earthquake was the strongest to hit Haiti since January 12, 2010, not including the aftershocks of the 2010 earthquake, and the shaking was felt as far away as Port-au-Prince. Tectonic setting Haiti lies at the boundary between the Caribbean Plate and North American Plate. Movement across this boundary is partitioned across several major structures. The major left-lateral strike slip fault zones of the Septentrional-Oriente fault zone and the Enriquillo–Plantain Garden fault zone together accommodate the lateral component of this movement. North of Haiti, the overall deformation is transpressional in nature and an additional structure, the North Hispaniola Fault, a major thrust zone, takes up the component of convergence at a rate of 5 mm per year. Tortuga (Haiti)
Tortuga Island (french: Île de la Tortue, ; ht, Latòti; es, Isla Tortuga, , ''Turtle Island'') is a Caribbean island that forms part of Haiti, off the northwest coast of Hispaniola. It constitutes the ''commune'' of Île de la Tortue in the Port-de-Paix arrondissement of the Nord-Ouest department of Haiti. Tortuga is in size and had a population of 25,936 at the 2003 Census. Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor (born September 26, 1964), also known as Fingerprints, is a Haitian musician and hip-hop music producer. He is best known for discovering and producing the hip-hop trio Salt-N-Pepa and the rap duo Kid 'n Play. Early life Born in Port-de-Paix, Azor is Haitian. Career In late 1985, with the rise of hip-hop response records all the rage, Azor and the group Salt-N-Pepa (then known as Super Nature) recorded a response to Doug E. Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew's "The Show" called "The Show Stoppa". He also went on to produce Dana Dane, Sweet Tee, Kwamé and others. Azor wrote and performed in Salt-N-Pepa's music video for " Push It", on keyboards and backup vocals, and also wrote the trio's song "Let's Talk About Sex", among others.
