Porbandar is one of the 182 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Gujarat state in India. It is part of Porbandar district. Since 2012 MLA from Porbandar is Babubhai Bokhiria of Bharatiya Janata Party. Gujarat Legislative Assembly or Gujarat Vidhan Sabha is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Gujarat, in the state capital Gandhinagar. Presently, 182 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from single-member constituencies (seats). It has a term of 5 years unless it is dissolved sooner. 13 constituencies are reserved for scheduled castes and 27 constituencies for scheduled tribes. Porbandar
Porbandar is a city in the States and territories of India, Indian state of Gujarat, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama. It is the administrative center of the Porbandar District and it was the former capital of the Porbandar State, Porbandar princely state. As the birthplace of one of the most famous leaders of the world, Porbandar has a significant tourism-led infrastructure and economy. 2007 Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election
Gujarat's twelfth legislative election was held in 2007. In this election, the BJP led by Narendra Modi won 117 seats out of 182 (ten seats fewer than in 2002). Congress improved its performance and won 59 seats (eight more than last election). Modi fought elections in Maninagar and won with a major majority. NCP won three seats, JDU won only one seat and independent candidates won only two seats. This was a turning point of Modi in politics. Arjun Modhwadia (cropped)
Arjun Modhwadia is an Indian National Congress politician from Porbandar Gujarat, India. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2007. He had been a president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), the Gujarat wing of Indian National Congress from 2 March 2011 to 20 December 2012. Early life and career Arjun Modhwadia was born at Modhwada, a village near Porbandar, on 17 February 1957. His schooling was at government primary school of the village. He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Lukhdhirji Engineering College in Morbi. Kantela
Kantela is a village in Porbandar district of Gujarat, India. It is located northwest of Porbandar, and around from the sea. As of 2011, its population was 1,289, in 259 households. To the north of the village is a water reservoir known as the Revati Kund, along with the Revateshwar Mahadev temple, said to have been founded by one Raja Revat. An inscription here, dated to ''samvat'' 1320 (1264 CE), describes the repair of the Revati Kund by one Samat Singh, who was viceroy of Saurashtra and, later, minister of Arjundev Vaghela.
