The Popular Resistance of the Eastern Region ( ''al-Muqāwama ash-Shaʿbiyya fīl-Minṭaqa ash-Sharqiyya''); also called the Popular Resistance in Raqqa ( ''al-Muqāwama ash-Shaʿbiyya fīr-Raqqah'') is a pro-government militant group in Syria. It wages a guerrilla campaign against the Syrian Democratic Forces, the armed forces of the Kurdish-dominated proto-state of Rojava, as well as the United States. Background When the Syrian Civil War broke out, various rebel factions took control of much of eastern Syria. After a period of infighting among the insurgents, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) emerged victorious and absorbed or expelled other rebel groups from eastern Syria. Regardless of these developments, a large part of the civilian population living under rebel and later ISIL rule remained secretly supportive of the Syrian government. Anti-Kurdish Sentiment
Anti-Kurdish sentiment, also known as anti-Kurdism or Kurdophobia, is hostility, fear, intolerance or racism against the Kurdish people, Kurdistan, Kurdish culture, or Kurdish languages. A person who holds such positions is sometimes referred to as a "Kurdophobe". Al-Awda (guerrilla Organization)
Al-Awda ( ar, العودة, en, The Return) is an Arab socialist Political party in Iraq. Al-Awda's name began appearing in Iraq in June 2003 in anti-occupation graffiti and leaflets in Baghdad and to the north and west of the capital. The group is led by Mohammed Younis al-Ahmed, who is based in Syria. Organization The party was believed to be a network of underground cells, mainly in the key urban areas, composed of former Ba'ath Party officials, intelligence agents, former members of the Iraqi Republican Guard, and Fedayeen Saddam militia. Ayn Issa
Ayn Issa ( ar, عين عيسى, also spelled Ain Issa. Meaning ''Spring of Jesus'') is a town in the Tell Abyad District of Raqqa Governorate in Syria. It is located halfway between the Syria–Turkey border town of Tell Abyad and the regional capital Raqqa. Through the city runs the M4 highway connecting Aleppo with the Hasakah Governorate.
