The Popular Front () was a political alliance in Burkina Faso. The FP was founded in October 1987 by that country's President, Blaise Compaoré, immediately after he came to power in a military coup d'état. The first member parties of the FP were the *Union of Burkinabè Communists (UCB) *Burkinabè Communist Group (GCB) *Communist Struggle Union - The Flame (ULC-La Flamme). African Independence Party (Burkina Faso)
The African Independence Party (french: Parti Africain de l'Indépendance) was a communist party in Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta), led by Thomas Sankara and Philippe Ouédraogo. It was a part of the Pan-African communist African Independence Party (PAI), which established its branch in Upper Volta in 1963. In 1973, PAI launched the Patriotic League for Development (LIPAD) as its open mass front. LIPAD became an important movement during the revolution of 1983 and through LIPAD PAI took part in the Thomas Sankara government for one year. Then relations with Sankara soured and LIPAD was expelled from the government. In the 1992 parliamentary elections, PAI was part of the pro-government Popular Front. PAI won two seats. Union of Social Democrats (USD; russian: Союз социал-демократов; ССД; ''Soyuz sotsial-demokratov'', ''SSD'') was an all-Russian non-governmental organization founded on 20 October 2007 by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. The party had its roots in the former Social Democratic Party of Russia, which lost its official status in April 2007 due to low party membership. The Union of Social Democrats skipped the 2007 general election, in order to concentrate on its ultimate goal: to become a mass political party by 2011. The Movement of Progressive Democrats (french: Mouvement des Démocrates Progressistes, MDP) was a political party in Burkina Faso. History The MDP was established on 15 October 1987 by Hermann Yaméogo. It joined the Popular Front, but was suspended from the group in July 1990 following internal problems.
