The 2016 Popular Democratic Party primaries was the primary elections by which voters of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) chose its nominees for various political offices of Puerto Rico for the 2016 general elections. They were held on June 5, 2016 and also coincided with the Democratic Party primaries in the island. Candidates Governor Incumbent Governor Alejandro García Padilla announced in December 2015 that he will not run for reelection. His former Secretary of State, David Bernier, announced soon after his candidacy for governor. Primary Election
Primary elections, or direct primary are a voting process by which voters can indicate their preference for their party's candidate, or a candidate in general, in an upcoming general election, local election, or by-election. Depending on the country and administrative divisions within the country, voters might consist of the general public in what is called an open primary, or solely the members of a political party in what is called a closed primary. In addition to these, there are other variants on primaries (which are discussed below) that are used by many countries holding elections throughout the world. Roberto Vigoreaux Lorenzana (born January 12, 1956, in San Juan, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican producer, TV show host, actor, singer, and former Senator. He is the son of TV producer Luis Vigoreaux, and the younger brother of Luisito Vigoreaux. Early years and studies Roberto Vigoreaux was born on January 12, 1956, to producer Luis Vigoreaux and Rosaura Lorenzana. He is the youngest of two sons, the other being Luisito Vigoreaux. Luis Vega Ramos (born June 11, 1970) is a Puerto Rican lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives from 2006 to 2021. Manuel Natal Albelo (born March 25, 1986) is a former member of the 29th House of Representatives of Puerto Rico. Brenda López de Arrarás (born April 25, 1971) is a Puerto Rican politician. She was a member of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Representatives from 2009 until 2021, and is affiliated to the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and served as the party's vice president.
