Poprad District
Poprad District (''okres Poprad'') is a district in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia. The district had been established in 1923 and from 1996 exists in its current borders. It consists of 29 municipalities, from which three have a town status. Its seat, cultural and economic center is Poprad, the largest city. Main economic branches are industry and tourism. Districts Of Slovakia
An okres (in English district) is an administrative unit in Slovakia. It is a second-tier territorial administrative unit, below a Regions of Slovakia, Region in standing, and superior to a municipality. Each district contains at least several municipalities. The cities of Bratislava and Košice are the only cities in Slovakia divided into internal urban districts, with five in Bratislava, and four in Košice. These urban districts are then further divided into smaller boroughs (which serve a function analogous to municipalities in typical districts). All other districts are larger in size and also include rural areas, and rural as well as urban municipalities. Each of these more typical districts has an urban centre serving as the seat of the district, usually the largest town (or the only town) of a given district. Liptovská Teplička
Liptovská Teplička is a large village and municipality in Poprad District in the Prešov Region of northern Slovakia. Geography The municipality lies at an elevation of 919 metres (3,015 ft) and covers an area of 98.69 km² (38.10 mi²). It has a population of about 2270 people. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1634. Settled probably before 1612 when the village Pohorelá (with that it shares the origins) was first mentioned in written records. The name Teplička (or its Hungarian transcript Teplicska) used till around 1920 when the adjective Liptovská (related to the Liptov region) had been added to distinguish it from other villages with the same name in Slovakia. Tatranská Javorina
Tatranská Javorina ( pl, Jaworzyna Tatrzańska, Hungarian: ''Tátrajavorina'') is a village in Poprad District in the Prešov Region of northern Slovakia. Geography The municipality lies at an altitude of 1000 metres and covers an area of 94.041 km². It has a population of about 230 people. It is located by the Javorová Valley in the Tatra Mountains at the Polish border. History The beginnings of the municipality are in the 18th century. Svit
Svit ( hu, Szvit) ( pl, Świt) is a small town in Poprad District in the Prešov Region in northern Slovakia. It lies west of the city of Poprad, at the foothills of the High Tatras. History Svit is one of the youngest Slovak towns. It was established in 1934 by business industrialist Jan Antonín Baťa of Zlín, Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic) through his organization Baťa a.s., Zlin in accordance with his policy of setting up villages around the country for his workers. As a boy, Jan Baťa saw the poverty and sickness of his fellow countrymen. He wanted to change this by creating cities full of the most modern factories and filled with the best (and happiest) workers in Europe. Štrba
Štrba is a village in the Poprad District, Prešov Region, northern Slovakia. It is situated in the Sub-Tatra Basin, which separates the High Tatras and Low Tatras at the European continental divide between the Baltic and the Black Sea.
