Albert Popper
Albert Popper ( cs, Vojtěch Popper; Hebrew name: ''Abraham''; 1808 – 3 September 1889) was a mayor of Vimperk (Winterberg) and doctor for the House of Schwarzenberg. Popper was born in the village of Bresnitz (Březnice) to a Jewish family. At the time of his birth the number of Jewish families in the Kingdom of Bohemia was strictly controlled by the Familianten quota system, which was partially abolished in 1848 and fully abolished in 1859. In addition to the government control of Jewish procreation, during most of Popper's life Jews were prohibited from owning property, choosing their place of domicile, attending public schools, or holding public office. This situation did not change until late in Albert Popper's life with the reforms of 1867 in the Austrian portion of the dual monarchy. John Popper (born March 29, 1967) is an American musician and songwriter, known as the co-founder, lead vocalist, and frontman of the rock band Blues Traveler. Early life John Popper was born in Chardon, Ohio. His father was a Hungarian immigrant who left Budapest in 1948. Through him, Popper is related to David Popper, a 19th-century European cellist whose many solo works for the cello are staples of the instrument's repertoire. Popper's mother and brother are lawyers. Popper was raised in Stamford, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Siegfried Popper (5 January 1848, Prague – 19 April 1933, Prague) was an eminent naval architect in late-nineteenth- and early twentieth-century middle Europe. Biography Popper was born in Prague to Joachim Popper, a fine goods dealer (Galanteriewarenhandler) and Anna Schulhof. He attended the Nikolander Realschule (Technical School) before attending the Technical University in Prague for one year. He gained a degree in mechanical engineering after a three-year study at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Naval career Popper spent three years at various engineering works in Prague before joining the Austro-Hungarian Navy on 1 December 1869 as a draughtsman. Josef Popper-Lynkeus (21 February 1838 – 22 December 1921) was an Austrian scholar, writer, and inventor. Josef Popper was born in the Jewish quarter in Kolín, Bohemia (now Czech Republic). He was the uncle of Austrian-British philosopher Karl Popper. Early life Josef was born to an impoverished Jewish family of tradespeople who placed a high value on education. After a highly religious early education he was sent to the Polytechnic in Prague. Four years later he started at the Imperial Polytechnikum, Vienna, to study Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy. However, despite doing well, the Concordat of 1855 enabled the Vatican to impose restrictions to Jews, and so he could only support himself by taking on low paid menial work. Joachim Edler Von Popper
Joachim Edler von Popper (20 October 1722 – 11 May 1795) came from family of entrepreneurs and communal leaders from Březnice (''Breznitz'') in the Kingdom of Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. His father, Wolf Popper, was a Primator (Chief Judge) of the Jews of Bohemia. Joachim Popper moved from Březnice to Prague and prospered there as a merchant (woolens, potash, whalebone), banker and manufacturer. In the mid-eighteenth century, Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II held a monopoly of tobacco in Austria-Hungary. Leopold divided the monopoly into leases and awarded them to Joachim, Israel Edler von Hönigsberg, and Salomon Dobruschka. On 27 May 1790, Joachim was ennobled as the first "Edler von Popper". Ami Popper ( he, עמי פופר; born June 2, 1969) is an Israeli mass murderer, convicted for the killing of 7 people in Rishon Lezion on May 20, 1990.
