Pope Paul VI College
Pope Paul VI College is a Hong Kong girls' Catholic secondary school in Shek Lei, Kwai Chung, New Territories. The EMI schools, English medium of instruction school was founded in 1969. History In 1967, Lorenzo Bianchi, then-List of Roman Catholic bishops of Hong Kong, Roman Catholic bishop of Hong Kong, invited the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate (PIME Sisters) to establish a girls' secondary school in the Tsuen Wan area, which the Hong Kong government was developing into a New towns of Hong Kong, new town. Construction of the school building, beside the Shek Lei Resettlement Estate, began in July 1969. Classes began in September 1969 at the Shek Lei Catholic Primary School. The school moved to the permanent school building in August 1970, which was formally inaugurated by Director of Education John Canning on 24 May 1970. A golden jubilee celebration was held in 2019. Kwai Chung
Kwai Chung is an urban area within Tsuen Wan New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Together with Tsing Yi Island, it is part of the Kwai Tsing District District of Hong Kong. It is also part of Tsuen Wan New Town. In 2000, it had a population of 287,000. Its area is 9.93 km². Areas within Kwai Chung include: Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing, Lai King, Tai Wo Hau. Kwai Chung is the site of part of the container port of Hong Kong. Origin of the name In earlier times Kwai Chung was called Kwai Chung Tsai (). New Territories
The New Territories is one of the three main regions of Hong Kong, alongside Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It makes up 86.2% of Hong Kong's territory, and contains around half of the population of Hong Kong. Historically, it is the region described in the Convention for the Extension of Hong Kong Territory. According to that treaty, the territories comprise the mainland area north of Boundary Street on the Kowloon Peninsula and south of the Sham Chun River (which is the border between Hong Kong and Mainland China), as well as over 200 outlying islands, including Lantau Island, Lamma Island, Cheung Chau, and Peng Chau in the territory of HK. Education in Hong Kong used to be largely modelled on that of the United Kingdom, particularly the English system. Since 2012, the overhaul of secondary school diploma has introduced changes to the number of school years as well as the two-tier general examinations. Shek Lei
Shek Lei Estate (), also known by Shek Lei (, both are currently used) is a Public housing in Hong Kong, public housing estate in Hong Kong, situated in the Shek Lei Pui () area in northeast Kwai Chung, New Territories, near Shek Yam Estate, On Yam Estate and Shek Yam East Estate. The estate is separated into two parts, namely Shek Lei (I) Estate () and Shek Lei (II) Estate (). It has a total of 21 residential blocks with a population of about 40,000, as well as two shopping centres. It is the second-largest public housing estate in Kwai Chung, after Kwai Chung Estate. EMI schools in Hong Kong are secondary schools that use English as a medium of instruction. there are currently around 100 EMI schools, accounting for around 30% of the total local secondary schools. Lorenzo Bianchi
Lorenzo Bianchi (; 1 April 1899 – 13 February 1983) was born in Italy, at Corteno, near Brescia. Mons. Lorenzo Bianchi was ordained Priest of Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) on 23 September 1922 and arrived in Hong Kong on 13 September 1923. In 1924, Bianchi worked in Sai Kung Peninsula, Sai Kung, New Territories; from 1925 to 1929 in Shanwei, Swa Bue, Hoi Fung District; from 1930 to 1941 (and for a 2nd time from 1948 to 1949) he was the director of Hoi Fung District. He was appointed as coadjutor bishop of Hong Kong on 21 April 1949 and was consecrated titular bishop of Choma (Lycia), Choma on 9 October 1949 and returned to Hoi Fung. He succeeded his predecessor on 3 September 1951 and, after he was released from China, installed on 26 October 1952. He resigned on 30 November 1968 and was appointed the titular bishop of Sorres until 10 October 1976. He returned to Italy 19 April 1969 and there died on 13 February 1983. The Bishop of Hong Kong is the head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, who is responsible for looking after its spiritual and administrative needs. New Towns Of Hong Kong
The Hong Kong government started developing new towns in the 1950s to accommodate Hong Kong's booming population. During the first phase of development, the newly developed towns were called " satellite towns", a concept borrowed from the United Kingdom, of which Hong Kong was a colony. Kwun Tong, located in eastern Kowloon, and Tsuen Wan, located in the south-west of the New Territories, were designated as the first satellite towns, when the urban area in Hong Kong was still relatively small, restricted to the central and western parts of Kowloon Peninsula and the northern side of Hong Kong Island.
