Popcycle
Popcycle was a Serbian pop rock band from Bečej, formed as a faction of the popular Serbian band Eva Braun. History Formation, rise to prominence (1994-1996) The first signs of the band existence were noted in the magazine '' Ritam'' (''Rhythm'') on early Summer of 1994, where the rock journalist Bojana Žikic described the band as "Gordon Gano meets Stipe and Buckley". The band was formed by Eva Braun members Milan Glavaški (guitar, vocals) and Ljubomir Rajić (drums), who, having performed as a cover band under the stodgy name Gervasius Twinkleminkleson (the name of an Alan Ford comic book character), were joined by Goran Obradović (bass). While awaiting for the Eva Braun magnum opus, the album ''Pop music'', featuring the song "Kopija" ("The Copy"), a hit song originally written for Popcycle, and dissatisfied with the atmosphere within group, the three focused their creativity on Popcycle, frequently performing live and gaining a loyal fan base. Rebel Star
Rebel Star is an alternative country/pop rock band, formed in 2006 by the former Eva Braun and Popcycle member Milan Glavaški with musicians from Bečej, Serbia and Szentendre, Hungary, where he moved to live after the disbandment of Popcycle. Eva Braun (band)
Eva Braun ( sr-Cyrl, Ева Браун) is a pop rock band from Bečej, Serbia, notable as one of the most important bands of the Vojvodina pop-rock scene of the 1990s. The band is credited for starting the pop rock revival in FR Yugoslavia of the 1990s which produced other notable acts like Oružjem Protivu Otmičara, Kristali and Veliki Prezir. History Formation, debut releases (1989–1993) In 1989, Goran Vasović and Petar Dolinka discussed the idea of forming a band. In Spring 1990, the core of the band was formed by the former two and Milan Glavaški. The agreement took place in a rented apartment in Novi Sad's Miše Dimitrijevića street. The first songs from this period were "Kuća lutaka", "Kao da znam", "Sva tvoja ćutanja" and "Dan pobede". In September, Ljubomir Rajić, after coming back from the army, joined the band as the fourth member. ''Alan Ford'' is an Italian comic book created by Max Bunker (Luciano Secchi) and Magnus (Roberto Raviola), in print since 1969. The comic book is a satirical take on classic secret agents laden with surreal and black humour, and sardonic references to aspects of the contemporary Italian and Western society. Although it became widely popular in Italy shortly after its introduction, Alan Ford remained relatively unknown outside Italy. The French, Danish and Brazilian editions soon failed but the only other foreign edition, in SFR Yugoslavia, was a huge success, becoming and remaining one of the most popular comic books in the former country and its successors. Bečej
Bečej ( sr-cyrl, Бечеј, ; hu, Óbecse, ) is a town and municipality located in the South Bačka District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The town has a population of 23,895, while the municipality has 37,351 inhabitants. It is a multiethnic town, predominantly inhabited by Serbs and Hungarians. History Bečej was mentioned first during the administration of the Kingdom of Hungary in 1091 under its Latin name Bechey and later in 1238 under Hungarian name Becse. The name probably originated from the Bechey family that had possessions in this area. In the 15th century (from 1419 to 1441) the town was a possession of the Serbian despot Đurađ Branković. In the end of the 15th century, the army of the Kingdom of Hungary led by Serbian despot Vuk Grgurević (Zmaj Ognjeni Vuk) defeated the Ottoman army near Bečej. Idoli ( sr-cyr, Идоли; trans. The Idols) were a Serbian new wave band from Belgrade. They are considered to be one of the most notable acts of the Yugoslav rock scene, and their 1982 album ''Odbrana i poslednji dani'' was on several occasions voted by the music critics as the greatest Yugoslav rock album. History Merlin and Zvuk Ulice The roots of Idoli can be found in a band called Merlin (not to be confused with the Sarajevo pop rock band of the same name) and then Zvuk Ulice consisting of Vlada Divljan on guitar and vocals, bassist Zdenko Kolar, keyboard player Dragan Mitrić, drummer Kokan Popović, Bora Antić on saxophone and Dragana Milković on piano and vocals. VIS Idoli (EP)
''VIS Idoli'' was the first and only EP by the Yugoslav new wave band Idoli. The cover of the EP is the ''Red Nude'', an act by Amedeo Modigliani. History The euphoria Idoli have made with their single Maljčiki / Retko te viđam sa devojkama resulted a great expectation on the next release. The band entered the studio in April 1981. Photographs from the recording sessions were released in newspapers and magazines. The band recorded six songs, including two cover versions. The whole material was released on a 12" self-titled EP. The band covered in an Elvis Costello style Chuck Berry's hit “Come On” but with lyrics in Serbo‐Croatian entitled "Hajde!" and "Devojko mala" for which the lyrics were taken from Nebojša Krstić's poetry book "O, Ima Načina". Suede (also known in the US as The London Suede) are an English rock band formed in London in 1989 by singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Justine Frischmann, and bass player Mat Osman. Britpop
Britpop was a mid-1990s British-based music culture movement that emphasised Britishness. It produced brighter, catchier alternative rock, partly in reaction to the popularity of the darker lyrical themes of the US-led grunge music and to the UK's own shoegaze music scene. The movement brought British alternative rock into the mainstream and formed the backbone of a larger British popular cultural movement, Cool Britannia, which evoked the Swinging Sixties and the British guitar pop of that decade. Britpop was a media-driven focus on bands which emerged from the independent music scene of the early 1990s.
