Pontarddulais Park is a cricket ground in Pontarddulais, Glamorgan. The ground was established in 1976, when Pontarddulais Cricket Club played Glamorgan in a friendly. From 1992 to the present day, it has hosted 13 Minor Counties matches., with Wales Minor Counties playing Devon in the first Minor Counties match on the ground in 1992. The only List-A match played on the ground came in the 2000 NatWest Trophy between Wales Minor Counties and Buckinghamshire, with Wales Minor Counties winning by 11 runs. Pontarddulais (), also known as Pontardulais (), is both a community and a town in Swansea, Wales. It is northwest of the city centre. The Pontarddulais ward is part of the City and County of Swansea. Pontarddulais adjoins the village of Hendy in Carmarthenshire. The built-up population was 9,073. History Most of the town lies within the parish of Llandeilo Tal-y-bont apart from the small section west of the bridge which lies in Llanedi parish. The bridge referred to in the name of Llandeilo Tal-y-bont (meaning "Saint Teilo's church at the end of the bridge") is not the same as that of Pontaberdulais. The church bridge was located near the old church on the earlier Roman road that crossed the river Loughor near Hendy. The medieval church of St Teilo was carefully dismantled stone-by-stone and reassembled in St Fagans National History Museum in Cardiff. Wales Minor Counties Cricket Club
Wales National County Cricket Club is one of twenty National county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents all of the historic counties of Wales except Glamorgan and is currently the only non-English member of the National Counties Cricket Championship. The team is currently a member of the National Counties Cricket Championship Western Division, having joined in 1988 after Somerset's second eleven left the competition, and plays in the NCCA Knockout Trophy. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Glamorgan County Cricket Club ( cy, Criced Morgannwg) is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Glamorgan ( cy, Morgannwg). Founded in 1888, Glamorgan held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship before the First World War. In 1921, the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to first-class status, subsequently playing in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England and Wales. 2000 NatWest Trophy
The 2000 NatWest Trophy was the 20th and last NatWest Trophy before being renamed as the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy for the 2001 season. It was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 2 May and 26 August 2000. The tournament was won by Gloucestershire who defeated Warwickshire by 22 runs in the final at Lord's. Format The 18 first-class counties, were joined by all twenty Minor Counties, plus Huntingdonshire. South Wales Cricket League
The South Wales Premier Cricket League, is the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in South Wales. The league was founded in 1999 as the South East Wales League, being renamed following its accreditation as an ECB Premier League in 2001. The original South Wales Premier Cricket League did not include all of South Wales's leading clubs. Its clubs came from South Glamorgan and the traditional county of Monmouthshire, while clubs from further west played in the South Wales Cricket Association, a league which has been in existence since 1926. That league too sought ECB Premier League status, but the ECB was not willing to accredit two Premier Leagues in South Wales. In 2010, the South Wales Premier Cricket League was reorganised.
