André Poncet
André Poncet (30 July 1755 – 23 July 1838) commanded a French infantry division during the French Revolutionary Wars. He joined the French Royal Army in a famous regiment and fought in the American Revolutionary War. Becoming a general officer in early 1794, he fought at Fleurus, Maastricht and other actions. He led a division in the Rhine Campaign of 1795 at Höchst and in the Rhine Campaign of 1796 at Limburg. Afterward, he held interior posts until his retirement from the military in 1811. He became mayor of his home town of Pesmes. André François-Poncet
André François-Poncet (13 June 1887 – 8 January 1978) was a French politician and diplomat whose post as ambassador to Germany allowed him to witness first-hand the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, and the Nazi regime's preparations for World War II. François-Poncet was the son of a counselor of the Court of Appeals in Paris. A student of German studies at the Paris Institute of Political Studies, his first area of study was journalism. One of François-Poncet's early written works included observations made during several journeys to the German Empire in the years prior to World War I. During the war, he served as an infantry lieutenant. Between 1917 and 1919, he was assigned to the press office of the French embassy in Bern, Switzerland and later served with the International Economic Mission in the United States and in other diplomatic roles under a series of French leaders. Antonin Poncet
Antonin Poncet (28 March 1849, Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans, Ain – 16 September 1913) was a French surgeon. Son of Jean Joseph Poncet and Catherine Jeanne Chabalier, he was inspired by his grandfather Jean-Pierre Antoine Chabalier, surgeon in the Imperial Army. He studied medicine in Lyon, where he served as ''interne des hôpitaux''. He was a member of the Lyon ambulance corps during the Franco-Prussian War, and in 1878 became a member of the surgical section of the Lyon faculty of medicine. In 1883 he attained the chair of operative medicine in Lyon. With Louis Léopold Ollier, Poncet is credited for introducing aseptic practices to Hôtel-Dieu. A rare form of polyarthritis that occurs in patients with tuberculous infection is named after him, and is called "Poncet's disease". Charles Poncet De Brétigny
Charles Poncet de Brétigny ( – 1644) was founder and governor of the French colony of Cayenne, in what is now French Guiana, from 1644 to 1645. A brutal and despotic man, after just over a year he was murdered by a Carib, as were most of the other colonists. Accounts of the events and aftermath are somewhat confused, gathered from the few survivors several years later. Life Charles Poncet, seigneur de Brétigny was born around 1610. Dan Poncet is a contemporary French painter. Born on 14 July 1953 at the château de Saint-Just in Ain department, France. She graduated in 1972 from the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Lyon and thereafter from the École nationale des beaux-arts de Lyon. Her first paintings show an influence of impressionism and of fauvism. After 1975 she returned to realism and to old techniques used in 17th-century paintings, such as glaze, pâtes or demi-pâtes. After meeting rosarian Jean Pierre Guillot in 1997, she also produced a series of paintings with subjects related to roses such as "Cueillette dans le Jardin de Roses". The Place Antonin-Poncet is a square located in the Bellecour quarter, near the Place Bellecour, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, France. It is served by the metro station ''Bellecour'' of the lines A and D, and by many buses (10-12-14-15-29-30-35-53-58-88-99). The square belongs to the zone classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Location and description The square is in the Presqu'île, between Place Bellecour and the Rhône. The rue des Marronniers, a small pedestrian street famous for its many bouchons, can be reached from the square. It has also stairs leading down to the river of the Rhône.
