Biography He was born on May 17, 1901 in Bucharest, "''in a place where he saw the light of day for the first time, on Sabines Street no. 109, the son of John Constantinescu, a customs house clerk, who studied much and of Vasilica Petrescu, nephew, on his father's side, of Constantine Constantinescu, originally from the vineyard village of Ceptura, who settled in Bucharest, as a vineyard owner and merchant''" (George Călinescu). Pompiliu Eliade
Pompiliu Eliade (April 13, 1869 – May 24, 1914) was a Romanian literary critic and historian. Life Born in Bucharest, he attended primary and high school in his native city, followed by the University of Bucharest, where he obtained a literature degree in 1891. He then studied at the École Normale Supérieure under Ferdinand Brunetière from 1892 to 1895, obtaining a doctorate in literature in 1898. His thesis dealt with French influence on Romania's public spirit during the Phanariote era. Hired as a substitute professor at Bucharest in 1900, he advanced to associate status in 1901 and full professor in 1904. Pompiliu Sorin Stoica (; born 10 September 1976) is a Romanian former footballer and currently assistant manager for Liga III club CSO Plopeni. Playing career Club Stoica started his senior career at hometown club Gloria Buzău, and went on to represent Astra Ploiești, Steaua București and Petrolul Ploiești in his country. He also had three stints abroad, of which two in Russia and one in Cyprus. International Between 2000 and 2006, Stoica earned eight caps and scored one goal for Romania at senior level. Pompiliu Ștefu (August 10, 1910 – March 28, 1942) was a Romanian typographer, communist activist and anti-fascist militant executed by the Nazi-aligned authorities during World War II along with a fellow militant, the socialist Nicolae Mohănescu. Biography Early life and activism Born in Turnu Severin, Ștefu completed his primary studies in his home town and, after graduating an industrial school, joined the Scrisul Românesc publishing house in Craiova as an apprentice monotype operator. Following his discharge from compulsory military service, in 1934, he decided to move to Romania's capital, Bucharest, where the strength of the typographers' unions ensured better work conditions. After short stints as a compositor at Slova and Cugetarea, he was employed by Cartea Românească in 1935.
