''Apodrosus'' is a Caribbean genus of broad-nosed weevils in the subfamily Entiminae, tribe Polydrosini, Polydrusini. Taxonomy The genus ''Apodrosus'' was described for the first time by Guy Anstruther Knox Marshall, Sir Guy A. K. Marshall in 1922 (p. 59). The type species of the genus is ''Apodrosus wolcotti'', from Puerto Rico. Description Small weevils (3–7 mm) of variable coloration ranging from grey to metallic green. They bear a large, triangular, glabrous nasal plate at the apical region of the rostrum. Distribution ''Apodrosus'' is distributed across the West Indies with representatives in The Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic and Haiti), Puerto Rico, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. List of species The genus ''Apodrosus'' contains 22 described species: # ''Apodrosus adustus'' Girón & Franz, 2010: 393 (The Bahamas) # ''Apodrosus alberti'' Anderson, 2017: 80 (Cuba) # ''Apodrosus alternatum'' Anderson, 2017: 83 (Cuba) # ''Apodrosu ...

Entiminae
The Entiminae are a large subfamily in the weevil family Curculionidae, containing most of the short-nosed weevils, including such genera as ''Entimus'', ''Otiorhynchus'', ''Phyllobius'', ''Sitona'', and '' Pachyrrhynchus''. In comparison with their stunning diversity, only a few of these weevils are notorious pests of major economic importance. Entimines are commonly encountered in the field, including urban environments, and abundant in entomological collections. Diversity There are over 12000 described species worldwide, distributed in over 1370 genera, nearly 14000 by more recent counts. Most tribes are represented in only one biogeographic region of the world. The current classification within the subfamily has been recognized as artificial rather than reflecting natural groups. General morphology Besides the shape of their broad and short rostrum, most entimines are easily recognized by the presence of a mandibular scar that appears when a deciduous process falls of ...

Polydrusus Formosus
''Polydrusus formosus'' is a species of broad-nosed weevil belonging to the family Curculionidae, subfamily Entiminae. Distribution This beetle is present in most of Europe and in the Nearctic realm. Description The adults grow up to long. The colour of this insect is brilliant metallic green, as the black body is coated in emerald round scales. If the scales wear off the body beneath appears dark. Antennae are pale with a dark club. These beetles show a short groove between the eyes and evident striae on the elytra. Biology Adults can mostly be encountered from April through August. These beetles lay their eggs in the bark or leaves of the host-plants. The soil-inhabiting larvae grow up to long feeding on juicy plant roots. In Autumn their development is complete. They overwinter and pupate in Spring. The adults are eaters of young leaves and open blossoms of a wide variety of woodland trees and shrubs (''Corylus avellana'', ''Quercus'' species, etc.), but also fruit tree ...

Weevil
Weevils are beetles belonging to the Taxonomic rank, superfamily Curculionoidea, known for their elongated snouts. They are usually small, less than in length, and Herbivore, herbivorous. Approximately 97,000 species of weevils are known. They belong to several families, with most of them in the family Curculionidae (the true weevils). It also includes Bark beetle, bark beetles, which while morphologically dissimilar to other weevils in lacking the distinctive snout, is a subfamily of Curculionidae. Some other beetles, although not closely related, bear the name "weevil", such as the Drugstore beetle, biscuit weevil (''Stegobium paniceum''), which belongs to the family Ptinidae. Many weevils are considered pests because of their ability to damage and kill crops. The grain or wheat weevil (''Sitophilus granarius'') damages stored cereal, grain, as does the maize weevil (''Sitophilus zeamais'') among others. The boll weevil (''Anthonomus grandis'') attacks cotton crops; it lays its ...
