Poltava International Airport ( uk, Аеропорт «Полтава» (Супрунівка)) is a public airport located approximately west of Poltava, Ukraine. It is one of two airfields near Poltava, the other being Poltava Airbase. The airport is located near the villages Ivashky ( uk, Івашки) and Suprunivka ( uk, Супрунівка). Since 2020 the airport is closed due to reconstruction. History Built in 1924, Poltava International airport was once able to process 200 passengers per hour. It took 2 years to build a new terminal, which was opened in 1974. In its best times from 40 to 60 planes used to land here. Back then it employed around 900 people. Poltava (, ; uk, Полтава ) is a city located on the Vorskla River in central Ukraine. It is the capital city of the Poltava Oblast (province) and of the surrounding Poltava Raion (district) of the oblast. Poltava is administratively incorporated as a city of oblast significance and does not belong to the raion. However, for reasons unknown, municipal authorities chose to celebrate the city's 1100th anniversary in 1999. Poltava Air Base ( uk, Авіабаза «Полтава», russian: Авиабаза «Полтава») is a military airfield located approximately northwest of Poltava, Ukraine. It is one of two airfields near Poltava, the other being Poltava Airport. History In 1936 the Poltava airfield became a base for Soviet military aviation. World War II German forces occupied the Poltava area from September 1941 until September 1943 as part of Reichskommissariat Ukraine. The Luftwaffe maintained a regional headquarters at the airfield, and Adolf Hitler visited on one occasion (1 June 1942). All aviation infrastructure of Ukraine is being supervised and regulated by the State Aviation Service of Ukraine (until 2010 the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine). The service issues certificates for all airports in the country and keeps a registry of all aircraft. There are over 20 airports in Ukraine.
