Polmos
Polmos (acronym for ''Polski Monopol Spirytusowy'', Polish Spirits Monopoly) was a Polish state-owned monopoly, controlling the Polish market for alcoholic beverages. Founded in the late 1920s, until World War II it was one of the leading vodka producers in Poland. Distilleries of Polmos were relatively modern and efficient at that time so the company exported its products to some European countries. After the war the company became an absolute monopoly and, like other distilleries, was nationalized by the government of the People's Republic of Poland. The newly created monopoly adopted the name ''Polmos''. After the fall of communism in 1989, the monopoly was divided into several independent enterprising entities, each owning one of the distilleries and one or two of the brands of the alcoholic drinks. Vodka
Vodka ( pl, wódka , russian: водка , sv, vodka ) is a clear distilled alcoholic beverage. Different varieties originated in Poland, Russia, and Sweden. Vodka is composed mainly of water and ethanol but sometimes with traces of impurities and flavourings. Traditionally, it is made by distilling liquid from fermented cereal grains, and potatoes since introduced in Europe in the 1700's. Some modern brands use fruits, honey, or maple sap as the base. Since the 1890s, standard vodkas have been 40% alcohol by volume (ABV) (80 U.S. proof). The European Union has established a minimum alcohol content of 37.5% for vodka. Polmos Łańcut
The Polmos Łańcut distillery is one of the oldest producers of liquors and liqueurs in Poland. A small amount of the distillery's output is exported to Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and the United States. History The distillery in Łańcut was founded by Duchess Lubomirska on the vast estate of the Lubomirski family. An original document attesting to the distillery's existence in 1784 can be found in its museum. Primarily the Łańcut estate produced regular, anise flavoured and sweetened vodkas. Count Alfred Wojciech Potocki, a grandson and heir of the Duchess, started to run the Łańcut and Lwów Lubomirski estates in 1823. Polmos Białystok
Polmos Białystok is one of the largest producers of alcoholic beverages in Poland. As of 2010, the firm's president was Henryk Wnorowski. Between 2005 and 2007 the company's stock was traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The firm was founded in 1928, under the control of "Polmos", an acronym for "Polski Monopol Spirytusowy" (Polish Spirits Monopoly), a state owned monopoly in distilled spirits. In 1936 the factories of the firm were moved to Brześć Litewski (now Brest, Belarus). The manufacturing was returned to Białystok in 1945 under the name ''Białostocka Wytwórnia Wódek'' (Białystok Vodka Manufacturer). Siwucha
Siwucha () is an incompletely rectified vodka (raw vodka) from Poland. The name derives from the ''siwy'' (ash grey) color of the liquid due to Tyndall effect of the colloid emulsion of residual fusel oil. History Siwucha is one of the generic Slavic words for a moonshine. In Polish it denotes a home-brew vodka or rotgut used for its preparation. The Russian term ''сивуха'' denotes also its poor quality and is used like "fusel" in "fusel oil" (сивушные масла). The name was first used as a vodka brand in Warsaw shortly before World War I.
