Pollyn
Pollyn is an electronic music group from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1998. The band consists of Adam Weissman (production, samples, percussion, synth), Genevieve Artadi (lead vocals, bass, keyboard), and Anthony Cava (guitar). Pollyn's debut EP ''Songs for Sale'' was released in 2003. Their first full-length album ''This Little Night'' was self-released in 2009. ''This Little Night'' produced subsequent remix records that included French dubstep producer Débruit, local Low End Theorist Nosaj Thing, grimy hip-hop producer Sid Roams, and Stones Throw-signed funkster James Pants. Pollyn's sophomore album ''Living in Patterns'' was released in 2011. The album garnered attention from local radio and news outlets such as KCRW and the Los Angeles Times for its strong afro-beat influences as well as drawing comparisons to groups such as Portishead, Blonde Redhead, and Gorillaz. Genevieve Artadi
Genevieve Artadi (born July 1, 1982) is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. She is best known as the co-founder of the jazz-funk duo Knower, along with Louis Cole. She was also the lead vocalist of the electro-pop band Pollyn, which formed in 1998. Additionally, she has recorded and performed with Jacob Collier, Snarky Puppy, and Thundercat. Early life Genevieve Artadi was born on July 1, 1982, in Los Angeles. Her parents, who had immigrated to the United States from the Philippines, were both musicians who toured in rock bands when Artadi was a child. As a result, Artadi had an unanchored childhood, moving every two or three years. As a student, Artadi took classical piano lessons and Polynesian dance classes. Knower (band)
Knower, also stylized as KNOWER, is an American independent electronic music duo who have gained success releasing music online. The group consists of Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi. Their full band is a jazz-funk act that includes saxophone, bass and keyboard players. Background Louis Cole studied music in Los Angeles, California, graduating from the Jazz Studies program at USC Thornton in 2009. He became good friends with fellow musician Jack Conte in 2006. Both composed and recorded some songs which are present on Conte's YouTube channel. Conte suggested Cole start releasing his music online. Genevieve Artadi also studied music in Los Angeles. She received her Bachelors in Jazz Studies at California State University (CSU) Northridge and did post-graduate studies at CSU Long Beach. Gorillaz are an English virtual band formed in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, from London. Freddie Gibbs
Fredrick Jamel Tipton (born June 14, 1982), better known by his stage name Freddie Gibbs, is an American rapper from Gary, Indiana. After initially being signed to Interscope Records in 2006, Gibbs recorded his debut studio album under the label. However, he was eventually dropped and the album was cancelled. Gibbs later signed with Young Jeezy's CTE World and released a number of mixtapes through the label, including 2012's highly acclaimed '' Baby Face Killa''. Rahkeim Calief Meyer (born February 11, 1978), better known by his stage name Roc Marciano, is an American rapper, songwriter, and producer. Career Roc Marciano started his career in 1999 when he joined Busta Rhymes' collective the Flipmode Squad. Marciano left in 2001 to form the U.N., a hardcore underground hip hop group consisting of three other MCs (Dino Brave, Laku & Mic Raw) with whom he released an album on Carson Daly's 456 Entertainment in 2004. Buffalo Daughter is a Japanese rock band formed in 1993. The three main members are suGar Yoshinaga (ex-Havana Exotica) on guitar, Yumiko Ohno (ex-Havana Exotica) on bass, and Moog (later changed to MoOog) Yamamoto on turntables and graphic design. The group had a drummer, Chica Ogawa, but after his departure they have had no permanent drummer and have hired different people to fill in as needed. Portishead () is an English band formed in 1991 in Bristol. The band is named after Portishead, Somerset, eight miles west of Bristol, along the coast.
