Al Pollard
Alfred Lee Pollard (September 7, 1928 – March 3, 2002) was a professional football fullback and halfback. After a brief stint at Loyola University, he decided to transfer to the United States Military Academy (Army) in the spring of 1949 where he played under the renowned Vince Lombardi as his backfield coach. In his 1950 season, he was Army's statistical leader in scoring and rushing. He resigned from the school after being involved in an cribbing scandal which decimated the ranks of Army's sports teams. He was drafted by the New York Yanks in the 21st round of the 1951 NFL Draft, and Pollard played a total of 30 games in the NFL with the Yanks and the Philadelphia Eagles, scoring one career touchdown. In 1954, he left the Eagles for opportunity and played in the Western Interprovincial Football Union, later known as the Canadian Football League, for the BC Lions, achieving "All Canadian" status. Claude Pollard
Claude Pollard (February 14, 1874 – November 25, 1942) was Attorney General of Texas from 1927–1929. During his service in public office he defended laws aimed at the disenfranchisement of black voters. Early life Pollard was born to Hamilton and Sarah Jane (Davis) Pollard on February 14, 1874. A native of Carthage, Texas, he graduated from one of its public schools. He became a teacher, but left the job when he entered the University of Texas at Austin to study for a law degree. Legal career Immediately after his admittance to the Texas Bar in 1895, Pollard was elected Panola County Attorney, a position he held until 1898. Chris Pollard
Chris Pollard is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current head baseball coach of the Duke Blue Devils. He played college baseball at Davidson for head coach Dick Cooke from 1993 to 1996 before playing professionally in 1996. He then served as the head coach of the Pfeiffer Falcons (2000–2004) and Appalachian State Mountaineers. Catherine Pollard (Scouting)
Catherine "Kay" N. Pollard (June 25, 1918 – December 11, 2006) was the first female Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). She led Boy Scout Troop 13 in Milford, Connecticut, from 1973 to 1975 but the BSA refused to recognize her as a Scoutmaster until 1988. Pollard had tried to register as Scoutmaster in 1974 and 1976. Troop 13 in Milford eventually dissolved when nobody else stepped up to be Scoutmaster. Her 1980s court case was won by the BSA and drew international attention. In January 1984 the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities ruled she had the right to be a Scoutmaster, but in May 1986 a judge overturned that ruling on the grounds boys needed a male role model and that BSA had the right to make its own rules since it was a private organization. Catherine Pollard (born 1960 in Georgetown, Guyana) is a diplomat who has been serving as Under Secretary-General of the United Nations for Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance since 2019. Calvin Pollard
Calvin Pollard (June 14, 1797 - 1850) was a New York City architect. He is known for his early design of the Brooklyn Borough Hall, the Petersburg courthouse, and numerous other schools and houses in the New York City area. Life and career Pollard was born in New Braintree, Massachusetts, the child of John Pollard and Kezia Heyward. His family moved to Cazenovia, New York in 1803 before moving to New York City in 1818. Pollard designed the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Rectory at Ossining, New York in 1834, now Calvary Baptist Church. In that same year, he won the contest to design the City Hall for Brooklyn. Construction began in 1836, but only the foundation had been laid when funds ran out. Nine years later, Gamaliel Kings revised Pollard’s plans and construction resumed, finally completing in 1848. Bruce Pollard
Bruce Pollard (born 1945) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s, and a dual premiership winner with St. George. Career Pollard played his junior football for Renown United JRLFC. He went on to play five first grade seasons with St. George between 1963-1967. He joined the first grade side after Brian Clay had broken his arm in 1963, and played in the 1963 Grand Final as an 18 year old.
