Colorado (, other variants) is a state in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. It encompasses most of the Southern Rocky Mountains, as well as the northeastern portion of the Colorado Plateau and the western edge of the Great Plains. Alexander Cameron Hunt
Alexander Cumming (December 23, 1825 – May 14, 1894) was the fourth governor of the Territory of Colorado, serving from 1867 to 1869 as a member of the Republican Party. Hunt was born in New York, New York on January 12, 1825. Soon after his birth his family moved to Freeport, Illinois, where he grew up and later served as mayor. Hunt traveled to California in 1850 to join the California Gold Rush and to the Pike's Peak Country in 1858 to join the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. Hunt was chosen as the judge of the Vigilante Committee of the Jefferson Territory. In 1861, Hunt was appointed U.S. Marshal for the new Territory of Colorado. U.S. President Andrew Johnson appointed Hunt as the new governor of the Territory of Colorado on April 24, 1867. Alexander Cummings (November 17, 1810 – July 16, 1879) was an American newspaper publisher and Republican politician from Pennsylvania who served as the third Governor of the Territory of Colorado from 1865 to 1867. He was opposed to Colorado statehood and his term was contentious and riddled with controversy between pro-state and anti-state factions. He published the Philadelphia North American, the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin and the New York World newspapers. Allen Alexander Bradford (July 23, 1815 – March 12, 1888) was a Delegate from the Territory of Colorado. Born in Friendship, Maine, Bradford moved to Missouri in 1841. He studied law and was admitted to the bar and practiced. He served as clerk of the circuit court of Atchison County, Missouri from 1845 to 1851. He moved to Iowa and was judge of the sixth judicial district 1852–1855. Samuel Hitt Elbert (April 3, 1833 – November 27, 1899) was an attorney in the Nebraska Territory before settling in the Colorado Territory. He served as the Secretary of the territory and from 1873 to 1874, he was the Governor of the Colorado Territory. He was a justice of the Colorado Supreme Court from 1876 to 1888 and was chief justice from 1879 to 1882. He was married to Josephine Evans, the daughter of Territorial Governor John Evans.
