Polish Radio London (also known as PRL 24) is a radio channel designed for Polish audience in the United Kingdom and Ireland, launched on 13 December 2006. It is available on DAB in the London area only and over the internet. The transmission on digital satellite has now ceased. The acronym PRL alludes to the Polish People's Republic, which had the same acronym in Polish. The radio is partnered with a Polish free weekly print magazine, Cooltura. Digital Radio In The United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom, the roll-out of digital radio has been proceeding since engineering test transmissions were started by the BBC in 1990 followed by a public launch in September 1995. The UK currently has one of the world's biggest digital radio networks, with about 500 transmitters, three national DAB ensembles, one regional DAB ensemble, 48 local DAB ensembles and an increasing number of small-scale DAB ensembles broadcasting over 250 commercial and 34 BBC radio stations across the UK. In London there are already more than 100 different digital stations available. In addition to DAB and DAB+, radio stations are also broadcast on digital television platform as well as internet radio in the UK. Satellite television is a service that delivers television programming to viewers by relaying it from a communications satellite orbiting the Earth directly to the viewer's location. ''Cooltura'' is a Polish-language magazine, published weekly in the United Kingdom with a print run of 55.000 copies. History ''Cooltura'' was founded by Włodzimierz Wojciech Witkowski, the chairman of Sara-Int LTD and Polish Media Group. The first issue of the magazine has been distributed in 10.000 copies and had 40 pages. It was launched 7 weeks prior to Poland joining the European Union. The third issue of Cooltura increased its page number to 48. The 7th issue, published in May 2004, had 64 pages. Due to Poland's integration with the EU and the massive influx of Poles into the UK, the magazine has been rapidly developing. In 2007 the content of Cooltura expanded to 132 pages. Between 2007 and 2011 the circulation of ''Cooltura'' reached 45.000 copies and has been distributed to 500 outlets in London and the nearby areas.
