Polish Ocean Lines (PLO, pl, Polskie Linie Oceaniczne) is a Polish commercial shipping company, with headquarters in Gdynia. The company was created in 1951 in a merger of three smaller shipping companies. Currently, PLO acts as a holding company for 12 other shipping companies. History PLO was founded as a state owned company in 1951, with the merger of: '' Gdynia-Ameryka Linie Żeglugowe S.A.'' Haiphong ( vi, Hải Phòng, ), or Hải Phòng, is a major industrial city and the third-largest in Vietnam. MS ''Jan Heweliusz'' was a Norwegian-built Polish ferry named after astronomer Johannes Hevelius ( pl, Jan Heweliusz) that served on the route Ystad–Świnoujście. It was built in Norway in 1977 and was owned by Polish Ocean Lines and operated by its subsidiary company Euroafrica Shipping Lines. In the early hours of 14 January 1993 it capsized and sank in 27 metres of water off Cape Arcona on the coast of Rügen in the Baltic Sea while sailing toward Ystad with 64 passengers and crew. The Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) was a department of the British Government formed early in the Second World War to control transportation policy and resources. It was formed by merging the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Transport, bringing responsibility for both shipping and land transport to a single department, and easing problems of co-ordination of transport in wartime. SS ''Narwik,'' formerly ''Empire Roamer'', was a Polish general cargo ship built in 1941 to the order of the British government, as one of the Empire B type ships. In 1942, together with four others (''Tobruk'', ''Bałtyk,'' ''Białystok'', ''Borysław'' - since 1950 ''Bytom''), it was transferred to the Polish Government in Exile for the Polish Merchant Navy.
