Polish Film Festival
The Gdynia Film Festival (until 2011: Polish Film Festival, Polish: ''Festiwal Polskich Filmów Fabularnych w Gdyni'') is an annual film festival first held in Gdańsk (1974–1986), now held in Gdynia, Poland. It has taken place every year since 1974, except in 1982 and 1983 when Poland was under martial law. The organizers of the festival are the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland, Polish Film Institute (PISF), Polish Filmmakers Association, the Pomeranian Voivodeship Local Government as well as the port city of Gdynia. The Polish Film Festival award is the Grand Prix Golden Lions (Polish: ''Złote Lwy''), which is different from the Eagle (Polish: ''Orzeł''), awarded at the Polish Film Awards and the Seattle Polish Film Festival (Seattle is the sister city of Gdynia). Polish (Polish: ''język polski'', , ''polszczyzna'' or simply ''polski'', ) is a West Slavic language of the Lechitic group written in the Latin script. It is spoken primarily in Poland and serves as the native language of the Poles. In addition to being the official language of Poland, it is also used by the Polish diaspora. There are over 50 million Polish speakers around the world. It ranks as the sixth most-spoken among languages of the European Union. Polish is subdivided into regional dialects and maintains strict T–V distinction pronouns, honorifics, and various forms of formalities when addressing individuals. ''Without Anesthesia'' (alternative English title: ''Rough Treatment'') is the English-language title for the Polish film ''Bez znieczulenia'', released in 1978, directed by Andrzej Wajda. It was entered in the 1979 Cannes Film Festival. According to the screenplay, ''Without Anesthesia'' takes place in the 1960s. Jerzy (Zbigniew Zapasiewicz), a well-known journalist and foreign correspondent who reports on wars, revolutions and guerrilla movements in the third world, is a man whose personal life and career are falling apart. ''Camouflage'' ( pl, Barwy ochronne) is a 1977 Polish drama film directed by Krzysztof Zanussi. Krzysztof Pius Zanussi (born 17 June 1939) is a Polish film and theatre director, producer and screenwriter. He is a professor of European film at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland where he conducts a summer workshop. Jerzy Antczak (born 25 December 1929, in Włodzimierz Wołyński) is a Polish film director. His film ''Nights and Days'' was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was entered into the 26th Berlin International Film Festival. Jerzy Antczak was the co-founder, Artistic Director and Chief Producer of “Masterpiece Theatre” which was produced on Polish Television. He is a professor at the UCLA. ''The Promised Land'' ( pl, Ziemia obiecana) is a 1975 Polish drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda, based on a novel by Władysław Reymont. Set in the industrial city of Łódź, ''The Promised Land'' tells the story of a Pole, a German, and a Jew struggling to build a factory in the raw world of 19th-century capitalism.
