The Polish Film Academy (Polish: ''Polska Akademia Filmowa'') is a professional honorary organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of motion pictures. History The Academy, founded in 2003, is composed of about 600 motion picture professionals from Poland. Membership in the Academy is by invitation only. Membership is based on being judged by all members – professional filmmakers as a nominated for distinguished achievements in filmmaking. Maciej Stuhr
Maciej Jerzy Stuhr (born 23 June 1975) is a Polish actor, comedian and occasional film director. Life and career In 1999, he majored in psychology from the Jagiellonian University before moving on to study acting at Kraków's National Academy of Theatre Arts, which he finished in 2003. He became known for his impressions of Polish actors and performers, such as Gustaw Holoubek and he established the cabaret ''Po Żarcie'', where he wrote most of the material. In 2013, he received the Polish Film Award for Best Actor for his role in Władysław Pasikowski's drama film ''Aftermath''. ''Quo Vadis: A Narrative of the Time of Nero'' is a historical novel written by Henryk Sienkiewicz in Polish. The novel ''Quo Vadis'' tells of a love that develops between a young Christian woman, Lygia (Ligia in Polish) and Marcus Vinicius, a Roman patrician. It takes place in the city of Rome under the rule of emperor Nero, AD 64. Sienkiewicz studied the Roman Empire extensively before writing the novel, with the aim of getting historical details correct. Consequently, several historical figures appear in the book. As a whole, the novel carries a pro-Christian message. It was first published in installments in the ''Gazeta Polska'' between 26 March 1895 and 29 February 1896, as well as in two other journals, ''Czas'' and ''Dziennik Poznański'', starting two and three days later. ''Quo Vadis'' is a 2001 Polish film directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz based on the 1896 book of the same title by Henryk Sienkiewicz. Jan Frycz (born 15 May 1954) is a Polish screen and stage actor. He was nominated for six Polish Academy Awards, winning twice for his supporting roles in the films ''Pornografia'' (2003) and ''The Welts'' (2004).
