Police 5
''Police 5'' is a British television programme that reconstructs major unsolved crimes in order to gain information from the public which may assist in solving the case. It originally aired on some ITV regions from 1962 to 1992, followed by a brief revival in 2014 on Channel 5. Creation ''Police 5'' was commissioned, when Lew Grade needed a five-minute programme to fill a gap in the schedules for six weeks caused by an American import underrunning. The idea came from Steve Wade, Head of Outside Broadcasts, and, Grade refused to copyright the format which allowed other ITV regions to launch their own versions with Taylor often hosting them. Almost a third of the appeals featured in the programme led to an arrest. Shaw Taylor
Eric Stanley Taylor (26 October 1924 – 17 March 2015), known professionally as Shaw Taylor, was a British actor and television presenter, best known for presenting the long-running five-minute crime programme ''Police 5''. Early life and career Taylor served in the RAF and trained at RADA. He then acted on stage in the West End and on tour. He was an announcer for Associated TeleVision (ATV) when the normal announcer was not available. He then had a variety of acting roles in film and television from the 1950s onwards, and presented various game shows including ''Password (UK game show), Password'', ''Tell the Truth (UK game show), Tell the Truth'', ''Dotto'', ''This Is Your Chance'' and ''The Law Game'' (BBC Radio 2). ITV Channel Television, previously Channel Television, is a British television station which has served as the ITV contractor for the Channel Islands since 1962. It is based in Jersey and broadcasts regional programme for insertion into the network ITV schedule. Until November 2011, Channel Television was one of four ITV companies independent from ITV plc alongside the two STV regions in Scotland and UTV in Northern Ireland.
