Patricia Polacco
Patricia Barber Polacco (born July 11, 1944) is an American author and illustrator. Throughout her school years, Polacco struggled with reading but found relief by expressing herself through art. Polacco endured teasing and hid her disability until a school teacher recognized that she could not read and began to help her. Her book ''Thank You, Mr. Falker'' is Polacco's retelling of this encounter and its outcome. She also wrote such books as ''Mr. Lincoln's Way'' and ''The Lemonade Club''. Early years She is of Georgian, Russian and Ukrainian-Jewish descent on her mother's side and of Irish on her father's side. She was born in 1944 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of a teacher and a salesman turned talk show host. Her parents divorced when she was three years old. Giorgio Polacco
Giorgio Polacco (April 12, 1875 - April 30, 1960) was the conductor of the Metropolitan Opera from 1915 to 1917 and the Chicago Civic Opera from 1921 to 1930. Biography He was born in Venice, Italy on April 12, 1875. In 1915 he became the conductor of the Metropolitan Opera replacing Arturo Toscanini. Polacco held that position until 1917. In 1918 he was hired by the Chicago Opera Association. He married Edith Mason Edith Mason (March 22, 1892 – November 26, 1973) was an American soprano. Biography She was born Edith Barnes on March 22, 1892, in St. Louis, Missouri and studied in Boston, Philadelphia, and Paris. She made her singing début on January 27, ... in 1919. In 1921 he became the conductor of the Chicago Civic Opera. In 1928 he was hospitalized with appendicitis. He divorced Edith Mason on July 21, 1929. He retired from the Chicago Civic Opera in 1930. Cesare Polacco
Cesare Polacco (14 May 1900 – 2 March 1986) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Life and career Born in Venice, Polacco started his career in 1920 in the stage company of Emilio Zago, with whom he played most of the Goldoni's repertoire. In 1928 he moved to Rome, where in addition to theatre he started appearing in films and working as a dubber. Being of Jewish origin, he was temporarily forced to abandon acting because of the 1938 Fascist racial laws, resuming his activities at the end of the war, in 1945. Also active on radio and television, he got a large popularity thanks to the Inspector Rock character he played in Carosello, in a series of giallo-comedy shorts aired between 1957 and 1968.
