Pol Heyvaert
Pol Heyvaert is a Belgian stage director and designer with long-standing ties to the Ghent-based theatre company Victoria. Pol Heyvaert has a long-standing relationship with Victoria. He was the stage designer for several of their productions including: Moeder en Kind ( Alain Platel & Arne Sierens; 1994); Bernadetje (Alain Platel & Arne Sierens; 1997); Dansé Donsé Dan Dan (Latrinité; 1995), Auri Sacra Fames (Latrinité; 1997); Limbus Patrum (Latrinité; 2000), Wayn Storm Carmen Story and Mise-en-Traub V (Wayn Traub;2001); Snack Bar Tragedy (Christophe Frick; 2002) and White Star (Lies Pauwels; 2004). Duncan McLean (writer)
Duncan McLean (born 1964) is a Scottish novelist, short story writer, playwright, and editor. Life and works Duncan McLean was born in Fraserburgh and has lived in Orkney since 1992. While based in Edinburgh in the 1980s, he started writing songs, stand-up routines, and plays for the Merry Mac Fun Co, a street theatre and comedy act with agitprop tendencies. The Merry Macs won various awards, and were twice nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award. In the 1990s McLean was part of a loose grouping of writers centred on Edinburgh whose characters were mainly poor, working class and young, whose themes were drugs, drink, dance music, violence and alienation, and who took their inspiration variously from the Glaswegian writers of the previous generation, notably James Kelman, and from overseas writers like Richard Brautigan and Knut Hamsun. Dimitri Verhulst (born 2 October 1972) is a Belgian writer and poet. He is best known for his novels ''Problemski Hotel'' and ''The Misfortunates''. Biography Verhulst was an unwanted child in a violent home and spent his later childhood in a foster home and a family replacing home. He grew up Catholic. As a writer, he made his debut in 1994 with the self-published ''Assevrijdag''. ''Aalst'' is a play by the Belgian stage director Pol Heyvaert. Based on real-life events that took place in the town of Aalst in 1999, the play recounts the murder of two children by their parents. It was originally performed in 2005 by the Ghent-based theatre company Victoria. Since then, it has toured extensively in Europe and in Canada. The background In January 1999, in the suburban Belgian town of Aalst, Luc de Winne and Maggie Strobbe checked into a hotel room with their two children, a boy aged seven and an infant girl of three months.
