Pocahontas Times Print Shop is a historic building located at Marlinton, Pocahontas County, West Virginia. It was built in 1900, and is a one-story, rectangular frame building measuring approximately 21 feet by 75 feet. It was built to house ''The Pocahontas Times'' newspaper operations. As late as the 1970s, it housed a paper folder and press installed around 1911. '' The Pocahontas Times'' has been published since 1882. Marlinton, West Virginia
Marlinton is a town in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, Pocahontas County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 998 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. It is the county seat of Pocahontas County and is known for its scenic beauty. History Marlinton is named for Jacob Marlin, who, along with Stephen Sewell, became the first non-native settlers west of the Allegheny Mountains, in the Greenbrier Valley in 1749. New Englanders Marlin and Sewell built a cabin in what would become Marlinton, but after various religious disputes, Sewell moved into a nearby hollowed-out sycamore tree. In 1751, surveyor John Lewis discovered the pair. Sewell eventually settled on the eastern side of Sewell Mountain, near present-day Rainelle, West Virginia, Rainelle. Pocahontas County is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,869. Its county seat is Marlinton. The county was established in 1821. It is named after the daughter of the Powhatan chief of the Native Americans in the United States from Jamestown, Virginia. She married an English settler and their children became ancestors of many of the First Families of Virginia. Pocahontas County is the home to the Green Bank Observatory and is part of the National Radio Quiet Zone. History When Andrew Lewis, early American pioneer, surveyor, and soldier from Virginia, came to survey one of the land grants for the Greenbrier Company in 1751, he found Jacob Marlin and Stephen Sewell living where Marlinton later developed. The ''Pocahontas Times'' is a weekly newspaper out of Marlinton, West Virginia. It is owned by The Pocahontas Times Inc., and has a circulation of 4,629. History Founded in 1882 in Huntersville by Reverend William T. Price, the paper was initially meant to keep his sons busy and provide extra income to pay for their college education. The paper moved to Marlinton in 1892. The paper is most famous for the writings of its long-time editor and publisher Cal Price. Price, who bought out his brother's share of the paper in 1906, ran the paper until his death in 1957. Politically engaged, his editorials often fell towards the conservative side of the spectrum: he was, for example, an ardent supporter of Governor Ephraim Morgan's anti-Union America First Day. The Basin Republican-Rustler Printing Building is a historic newspaper printing building located at 409 West C Street in Basin, Wyoming. The building was used to print the ''Basin Republican-Rustler'', Basin's weekly newspaper. The ''Republican-Rustler'' formed from the merger of two newspapers, the ''Rustler'' and the ''Republican''. The ''Rustler'' was founded in 1889 in Bonanza and was the first newspaper in the Bighorn Basin; it was published in Hyattville before moving to Basin in 1900. The ''Republican'' was first printed in 1905 as a political counterpoint to the ''Rustler'', which had affiliated with the Democratic Party. The Eagle Newspaper Office is a historic commercial complex in Delano, Minnesota, United States, comprising three adjacent buildings constructed 1883–1885. It served as the headquarters of the ''Delano Eagle'' newspaper and a print shop specializing in railroad and commercial printing, as well as bookbinding. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 for having local significance in the theme of communication. It was nominated as the home of Delano's oldest business and a newspaper that had served the community continuously since its founding in 1872.
