Pobiedziska
Pobiedziska (german: Pudewitz) is a town in Poznań County, Poland, with 8,209 inhabitants as of the year 2004. It is also the seat of the administrative district (gmina) called Gmina Pobiedziska. The town's name comes from the word ''pobieda'' meaning victory. It was named by Casimir I the Restorer in 1048 AD, possibly to commemorate his defeat of Miecław, Masław, a rebellious Masovian steward (office), namiestnik. In 1257, Pobiedziska was granted town privileges by Przemysł I of Greater Poland, making the town independent from the Ostrów Lednicki castellany. In 1331, the town was destroyed by the Teutonic Knights and it took many years to recover. The town was often visited by Władysław Jagiełło. In 1423 he funded the construction of a Church of the Holy Spirit as well as a hospital for the poor. __NOTOC__ Gmina Pobiedziska is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Poznań County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. Its seat is the town of Pobiedziska, which lies approximately north-east of the regional capital Poznań. The gmina covers an area of , including the southern part of the protected forest area of Puszcza Zielonka Landscape Park and the whole of Promno Landscape Park. Poznań County ( pl, powiat poznański) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Greater Poland Voivodeship, west-central Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat is the city of Poznań, although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). Antoni Świadek
Antoni Świadek (1909–1945) was a Polish priest from Bydgoszcz. He died in the Dachau concentration camp and was beatified by the Catholic Church. He is one of the 108 Martyrs of World War II. Biography He was born on March 27, 1909, in Pobiedziska, in Poznań. He was the son of Władysław, a wheelwright, and Władysława née Mieleszyński. He attended the gymnasium in Kępno, where in 1928 he passed the secondary school leaving examination. He was active in the Marian Sodality and in scouting. Immediately after graduating from high school, he came to the seminary in Poznań , where on June 10, 1933, he was ordained a priest. In July 1933 he became vicar of the parish church in Bydgoszcz and remained there until his arrest in 1942. He was also appointed a scout and military chaplain. Antoni Palluth
Antoni Palluth (11 May 1900, Pobiedziska, Province of Posen – 18 April 1944) was a founder of the AVA Radio Company. The company built communications equipment for the Polish military; the work included not only radios but also cryptographic equipment. Palluth was involved with the German section (''BS-4'') of the Polish General Staff's interbellum Cipher Bureau. He helped teach courses on cryptanalysis, and he was involved with building equipment to break the German Enigma machine. Life Palluth was a civil-engineer graduate of the Warsaw Polytechnic. In January 1929, he was one of the instructors in a cryptology course organized by the Cipher Bureau, at Poznań University, which was attended by selected mathematics students. Miecław (10th/11th century – 1047) was a cup-bearer of king Mieszko II Lambert, who in c. 1038 had proclaimed independence of the state that he ruled, from the Duchy of Poland, beginning the rebellion that lasted until his death in 1047.
