Plymouth (film)
''Plymouth'' is a 1991 science fiction television film that was shown on American Broadcasting Company, ABC Network in the same year, as a Television pilot, pilot for a planned series. It was created by Lee David Zlotoff and funded by the American Broadcasting Corporation, The Walt Disney Company, Walt Disney and RAI, Rai uno radiotelevisione, with Lockheed Corporation, Lockheed acting as technical advisors. Plot synopsis Plymouth, a small timber and mining town in Oregon, was contaminated by radiation from a nearby factory run by multinational corporation UNIDAC. All the residents left in a hurried evacuation in the middle of the night. UNIDAC offered financial compensation, but what the town really wanted was to be a community again. UNIDAC also had a mining operation on the Moon extracting helium-3, but it was financially failing. Lee David Zlotoff
Lee David Zlotoff (born July 10, 1954) is a producer, director and screenwriter best known as the creator of the TV series ''MacGyver''. He started as a screenwriter for ''Hill Street Blues'' in 1981. He then became a producer of ''Remington Steele'' in 1982. Career Zlotoff created ''MacGyver'', which ran on ABC between 1985 and 1992 and was sold throughout the world. He then produced the television series ''The Man from Snowy River'' (Australian title: ''Banjo Paterson's The Man from Snowy River'' — American title: ''Snowy River: The McGregor Saga''). The series was based on the Banjo Paterson poem "The Man from Snowy River". He wrote and directed the 1996 film ''The Spitfire Grill'', which won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. Helium-3
Helium-3 (3He see also helion) is a light, stable isotope of helium with two protons and one neutron (the most common isotope, helium-4, having two protons and two neutrons in contrast). Other than protium (ordinary hydrogen), helium-3 is the only stable isotope of any element with more protons than neutrons. Helium-3 was discovered in 1939. Helium-3 occurs as a primordial nuclide, escaping from Earth's crust into its atmosphere and into outer space over millions of years. Helium-3 is also thought to be a natural nucleogenic and cosmogenic nuclide, one produced when lithium is bombarded by natural neutrons, which can be released by spontaneous fission and by nuclear reactions with cosmic rays. Solar Flare
A solar flare is an intense localized eruption of electromagnetic radiation in the Sun's atmosphere. Flares occur in active regions and are often, but not always, accompanied by coronal mass ejections, solar particle events, and other solar phenomena. The occurrence of solar flares varies with the 11-year solar cycle. Solar flares are thought to occur when stored magnetic energy in the Sun's atmosphere accelerates charged particles in the surrounding plasma. This results in the emission of electromagnetic radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum. High-energy electromagnetic radiation from solar flares is absorbed by the daylight side of Earth's upper atmosphere, in particular the ionosphere, and does not reach the surface.
