Arnold Plumer
Arnold Plumer (June 6, 1801 – April 28, 1869) was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Life and career Arnold Plumer was born near Cooperstown, Pennsylvania. He was privately tutored at home and completed preparatory studies. He served as sheriff of Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1823 and prothonotary of the county in 1829 and clerk of the courts and recorder from 1830 to 1836. Political career Plumer was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress. He was appointed marshal of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania by President Martin Van Buren on May 20, 1839, and served until May 6, 1841. He was elected to the Twenty-seventh Congress. He was again appointed United States Marshal for the Western District of Pennsylvania on December 14, 1847, and served until April 3, 1848, when he resigned. Henry Plumer McIlhenny (October 7, 1910 – May 11, 1986) was an American connoisseur of art and antiques, world traveler, socialite, philanthropist, curator and chairman of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Early life and art collections During his years at Harvard, from which he was graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Fine Arts in 1933, Paul J. Sachs also influenced his future collecting. During World War II, he served in the United States Naval Reserve, with one and a half years on the USS ''Bunker Hill'' in the Pacific theater. He was photographed in his uniform by George Platt Lynes. His passion for art and collecting was inculcated by his parents, Frances Galbraith (Plumer) and John Dexter McIlhenny, who also played an active role in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Field Marshal Herbert Charles Onslow Plumer, 1st Viscount Plumer, (13 March 1857 – 16 July 1932) was a senior British Army officer of the First World War. After commanding V Corps at the Second Battle of Ypres in April 1915, he took command of the Second Army in May 1915 and in June 1917 won an overwhelming victory over the German Army at the Battle of Messines, which started with the simultaneous explosion of a series of mines placed by the Royal Engineers' tunnelling companies beneath German lines, which created large craters and was described as the ''loudest explosion in human history''. Patricia Susan "PattiSue" Plumer (born April 27, 1962) is an American former middle-distance and long-distance runner. She is a two-time Olympian, finishing 13th in the 3000-m final in 1988 in Seoul, before going on to finish 10th in the 1500-m final and fifth in the 3000-m final in 1992 in Barcelona. Polly Anne Plumer is an American track and field athlete who set the National High School record holder in the Mile run at 4:35.24, in open competition at UCLA May 16, 1982 while a student at University High School (Irvine, California). That distance is no longer run in high school competition since the NFHS converted to metric distances in 1980, but it is still an international record event. Her record lasted over 30 years until it was surpassed on January 26, 2013 by Mary Cain, indoors, running 4:32.78 at the New Balance Games. Cain later improved her own mark to 4:28.25, also indoors at the Millrose Games. George Canning said that his law books were as pleasant as novels, and his novels as dull as law books. Life He was born in Mount Street, Mayfair, London, on 19 March 1765, the son of John Ward by his wife Rebecca Raphael. Sir Thomas Plumer (10 October 1753 – 24 March 1824) born 2nd s. of Mr Thomas Plumer, Esquire (Oct 1711 - 17 March 1781) a City of London Banker and a Director of Bank of England, sometime Wine Merchant, of Lilling Hall, Yorks., and Ann Nancy, dau. of John Thompson of Kirby Hall, Yorks.
