Reginald Innes Pocock
Reginald Innes Pocock F.R.S. (4 March 1863 – 9 August 1947) was a British zoologist. Pocock was born in Clifton, Bristol, the fourth son of Rev. Nicholas Pocock and Edith Prichard. He began showing interest in natural history at St. Edward's School, Oxford. He received tutoring in zoology from Sir Edward Poulton, and was allowed to explore comparative anatomy at the Oxford Museum. He studied biology and geology at University College, Bristol, under Conwy Lloyd Morgan and William Johnson Sollas. In 1885, he became an assistant at the Natural History Museum, and worked in the section of entomology for a year. He was put in charge of the collections of Arachnida and Myriapoda. He was also given the task to arrange the British birds collections, in the course of which he developed a lasting interest in ornithology. The 200 papers he published in his 18 years at the museum soon brought him recognition as an authority on Arachnida and Myriapoda; he described between 300 and 400 s ... Spiders Of Asia
Spiders (order (biology), order Araneae) are air-breathing arthropods that have eight legs, chelicerae with fangs generally able to inject venom, and spinnerets that extrude spider silk, silk. They are the largest order of arachnids and rank seventh in total species diversity among all Order (biology), orders of organisms. Spiders are found worldwide on every continent except for Antarctica, and have become established in nearly every land habitat. , 50,356 spider species in 132 Family (biology), families have been recorded by Taxonomy (biology), taxonomists. However, there has been debate among scientists about how families should be classified, with over 20 different classifications proposed since 1900. Anatomically, spiders (as with all arachnids) differ from other arthropods in that the usual body segmentation (biology), segments are fused into two Tagma (biology), tagmata, the cephalothorax or prosoma, and the opisthosoma, or abdomen, and joined by a small, cylindrical Gl ... Theraphosidae Genera
Tarantulas comprise a group of large and often hairy spiders of the family Theraphosidae. , 1,040 species have been identified, with 156 genera. The term "tarantula" is usually used to describe members of the family Theraphosidae, although many other members of the same infraorder (Mygalomorphae) are commonly referred to as "tarantulas" or "false tarantulas". Some of the more common species have become popular in the exotic pet trade. Many New World species kept as pets have setae known as urticating hairs that can cause irritation to the skin, and in extreme cases, cause damage to the eyes. Overview Like all arthropods, the tarantula is an invertebrate that relies on an exoskeleton for muscular support.Pomeroy, R. (2014, February 4). Pub. Neoheterophrictus
''Neoheterophrictus'' is a genus of tarantula in the family Theraphosidae. It comprises seven species, all found in India. Characteristics ''Neoheterophrictus'' is similar to ''Heterophrictus'' and ''Plesiophrictus'', however the females differ by having a different spermathecae structure, which have two receptacles with many lobes/termini at the end. Males are distinguished from ''Plesiophrictus'' by the absence of a tegular keel on the male palpal bulb. It occurs in the Western Ghats, India. Etymology The name is a combination of two words ''neo'' and ''heterophrictus'', ''neo'' in Latin meaning "new" and ''Heterophrictus'' being a genus name within the family Theraphosidae. Species , the World Spider Catalog recognized seven species. All are restricted to India. *'' Neoheterophrictus amboli'' Mirza & Sanap, 2014 *''Neoheterophrictus bhori'' (Gravely, 1915) *''Neoheterophrictus crurofulvus'' Siliwal, Gupta & Raven, 2012 *''Neoheterophrictus madraspatanus'' (Gravely, 1 ... Chilobrachys
''Chilobrachys'' is a genus of Asian tarantulas that was first described by Ferdinand Anton Franz Karsch in 1892. They are found in India, Myanmar, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Thailand and Sri Lanka. They are usually medium or large-sized, and they can stridulate by using small spines present on the chelicerae. Diagnosis They have special stridulating organs in their chelicerae, which are made of short spines. Males have a palpal bulb which ends in a long and slender blade like spine, females have one pair of spermathecha. The anterior eyes form almost a straight line. Their legs have a narrower scapulae at the tip of the metatarsus. Species it contains thirty-one species, found in Asia: *'' Chilobrachys andersoni'' ( Pocock, 1895) – India, Myanmar, Malaysia *'' Chilobrachys annandalei'' Simon, 1901 – Malaysia *'' Chilobrachys assamensis'' Hirst, 1909 – India *'' Chilobrachys bicolor'' (Pocock, 1895) – Myanmar *'' Chilobrachys brevipes'' ( Thorell, 1897) – Myanma ...
